Has anyone used this book in their training, you get it free with the total immersions DVD this X-Mas so I was wondering if it is going to be useful? (mind you it is free so why wouldnt it be ). Also has anyone used the total immersions DVD in their swimming training. I am feeling like upside down turtle while swimming at the moment.

I've just started my swim training and I decided that TI sounded like a good way to go. I bought the DVD last week and got the Triathlon Swimming Made Easy book free. If you are trying to teach yourself without a coach, I would recommend both. Some things are easier to understand by watching the DVD, other parts make more sense (or are explained in more detail) in the book.

Good luck with your swimming.

Cheers
Boz

Hi Boz, yep that is the same deal I think I am going to order, I am one of those that like to figure things out themselves so it sounds like something that will be right down my alley. Are you feeling a great improvement?

It all makes pretty good sense. I've only done two workouts with it so far, got another planned for this arvo. I'm still working on the first few drills at the moment, but I am feeling more co-ordinated in the water. It will probably be a few weeks before I get through all the drills and put them together and actually start doing laps.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers
Boz

Great thanks Boz ... what tools are needed for the drills (X-Mas presents in mind ), i.e. kickboards etc.

The only "tools" that they use and/or recommend are the "Fist Gloves". Basically they make you swim with a closed fist to improve your form, efficiency and "feel for the water". I haven't got a pair yet. I'm considering getting some. Anyone out there used them?

ummmmmm,. can't you just hold your hand in a fist? That's what I do, not sure why you'd need to buy something for that drill......

TI in general is awesome. I'd swam for a while and it helped me heaps.

I haven't read the Tri specific book but I did read SME and have the FME DVD. Both are excellent and I'm considering getting the TSME book.

Does anyone know the differences between the SME and TSME books?

Rob

Rob,

http://www.totalimmersion.net/faqs.html#books

Question number 4 should answer your question. Sounds like....
SME = tips on all strokes, TSME = freestyle distance swimming.

I only have the "Total Immersion" book, so I don't know for sure.

Fins are also very helpful when starting with TI.

I can't say enough good things about TI. I use the book and an old video. Even if you stick to the generalal ideas you'll be a better swimmer. Press your bouy; keep your body long and start your stroke with your hips. It's a very cool feeling to learn how to slice through the water like a fish.

I started on the TI book 2 weeks ago. I did not get the DVD to go with it though...but I am going to purchase the TSME with the TI dvd. I would definitely suggest the DVD...some of the thoughts in TI I do not understand and think the DVD would help a whole lot. I have no swimming background at all though, except that from playing in pools. So, I am totally new to being fish liek and breathing. Too bad I cn't breathe like a fish. Also, I am a 'sinker'! I mean big time. I have ran my whole life...very dense muscle mass and not nothing at all to really help me float, so swimming downhill and breathing are my two problems. Anyways, I highly suggest the DVD..even though I have not seen it, I truly think it will be helpful. Does anyone have any thoughts as to making the TI breathing easier? Every time I roll up I lose my nose down, head hidden position.
