Pre-race routine:

Ate a little bit before leaving the house. Apple, oatmeal and toast with peanut butter. Stretched a tiny bit when I got there but not too much. Maybe should have stretched a little more but it was just so nasty out that I didn't really feel like it.
Event warmup:

jogged a little bit on the way up to the event from my car.

Comments:

I was wearing my long sleeve shirt with the race shirt on top of it....with my hoodie and a rain jacket on top of that. Probably too many layers but I like to sweat it out when I work out. My feet were definitely soaked the entire time which was not fun but I made it through. I need a new pair of good shoes for sure...the ones I have are not cutting it.
What would you do differently?:

I would have stretched a little more and I think that I would have taken a faster pace if I knew how short the course was really going to be. I think I would have left in an earlier wave too since the people I left with were pretty slow and I had to weave in and out and around them to get through.
Post race
Warm down:

just walked around for 10 or 15 minutes and had a bottle of water. I really wasn't that tired when I got done and didn't need too much of a cool down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Shoes...rain, wind and cold...but what can you do??

Event comments:

Definitely think that I will do this race again next year....hopefully the weather will be better. :D

Course: The course was actually really nice. I wish that it had been nicer outside so that I could have enjoyed it more. It was flat the entire way and was a quick down and back. there were 2 or 3 aid stations a long the way but I didn't need to stop at any of them.

Super job, Matt! It was pretty gross out there, and you did a great race. Definitely get some decent shoes--your feet will love you.

Great job Matt

Those conditions were not ideal for a long course event, but a 5k in that is just brutal. (Hard to run at maximal 5k pace in the blowing wind and rain) It was made all that much worse by the fact that they made you guys run on the trail on the cliffs. (At least we got some shelter over parts of the course)

Was nice meeting up with you for the ride and lunch.

Congrats on your first race! I did the 5k with a friend yesterday and it was her first race, too. Even with the nasty conditions, she's ready for another one, too.
