Pre-race routine:

Pulled my pre-race checklist and layed out shorts, underarmour, shirt, race number, HR Monitor, shoes, shocks, poncho (rain predicted). Set up post race towels along with post race nutrition and post race workout bag. Because of weather, planned on going to gym after the race to sit in jacuzzi.
Event warmup:

What warm-up....it was too cold and wet. Did some stretching.
Run
  • 2h 24m 8s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m  min/mile
Comments:

Went out slow for first 3 miles (11:08 Pace). At Mile 7.75, pace was at 11:21. Average overall pace for entire race was just over 11 minutes per hour (11.0025445 pace).
What would you do differently?:

Would carry a flask of Infinit with me. Perhaps do more stride workouts during the 13.1 run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to cool down and stretched. Changed out of as many wet clothes as possible. Got in car and drove to gym. Hit the jacuzzi to warm up core body temperature. Stretched. During Super Bowl game, continued to stretch the muscles.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weather was a factor.

Event comments:

Race organizers did a GREAT Job despite the weather conditions....the volunteers were the unsung heros! They really braved the elements.

Shoulder was sore, but nothing to write home about. Still waiting for surgery date!!! What was important was my blood sugar level was at 181 after the race and I was watching it plummet...hypoglycemic episode waiting to happen. I had some food and my sugar pills in the car. Still wasn't doing the trick so I did pull over to a 7-11 and got some orange juice into me. Aaaaahhhh the small challenge of being diabetic!
