Pre-race routine:

A little gatorade and a nutri-grain bar. Some stretching and drove over from Perdido.
Event warmup:

Not much at all. It was windy and I hadn't trained much, so I was treating the first two miles as the warmup.
Run
  • 2h 19m 31s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't want to push too hard. I hadn't been focussing on much run training, but I had done a half mary in early December and early January. I basically relied on that. By mile ten I was still feeling pretty good, so I decided to push the last 5k. It was into the teeth of a wind off the gulf, but I probably had my best splits on that part. Ended up setting a PR by a minute.
What would you do differently?:

A little more run training. However, my offseason called for heavy biking in January and a February in the pool. This was more for fun really.
Post race
Warm down:

Had a Subway, changed clothes, and went back to Perdido Key. It was my birthday so my post race day was a bit of indulgence with oysters and beer.

Event comments:

Small race, but was very well organized. Great volunteers and plenty of fluids. Just a bare bones, get out and run good time. I liked this race a lot and would do it again if I find myself in the area.

Great job! I did that race last year and the hills really surprised me. Good luck with your season!
