Subject: Sleep, glorious sleep...
My average weekday is like this - out of bed just before 5, out the door at 5:40, on the bus at 5:50, at work at 7:15, back on the bus at 5:15, at the Y (or training at home) at 6:45, home at 8:15 or so. At this point I still need to shower, eat, and wind down, not to mention any of the other things that need to get done. I hardly ever make it to bed before 10:30, usually more like 11, then I have to fall asleep. So during the week, I usually only get about 5.5-6 hours of actual sleep each night.

However, on the bus I am usually able to squeeze in a half hour or so of napping in either direction. I find that the morning nap (usually 45 mins) helps with my energy level at work, and the evening nap (as long as it's not longer than half an hour) helps me feel up to working out. When I used to drive to work (62 miles each way) I was always exhausted after work, although it did free up a little more time, and I usually went to bed earlier. I also didn't work out as consistently back then.

Anyway.... I know this isn't exactly the healthiest sleep pattern, and I'm wondering just how bad (or not so bad) it really is. Anyone else have an unusual sleep pattern?

Right on there with you.

Up at 3, shower and on the road by 4. Long haul commute so work starts @ 530, then leaving at 330/400 to get home by 5 or six. Time with the Family till the 1 1/2 yo goes to bed at 745, to the gym till 9/930. Home at 10, bed 1030.....

Every weekday pretty much, cept recover Tuesdays. I'm a zombie all the time...

Work 3rd shift, watch my 2.5 yo daughter during the day, train when she goes down for a nap, go to bed whenever my wife gets home from work. Usually get 4-6 hours/day, no consistancy.

Daughter just started pre-school. 3 .5 days, so no real change to my sched yet. When she goes to 3 full days, I'll get more sleep, training time, and real family time again. Can't wait!

I work 12 hour shifts, 2 days (7am-7pm)then 2 nights(7pm-7am) then have 5 days off.  Work days are a write off for me... up at 5:10, home at 8 pm, sometimes do a short (60 mins or less) workout but often too tired so eat, shower and go to bed.  The second day I will stay up later.  Then I switch to nights and sleep that whole day in between. After the second night I'll sleep until noon (so I don't waste the whole day sleeping) but I'm pretty much a zombie the rest of the day and falling asleep early in the evening.  The next  4 days are good.

These rotating shifts get harder the older I get.  I do like the 5 days off though.

lvthgme - 2008-03-04 11:04 AM I've found that in a pinch, I can nap quite well in the restroom here at work. =)

LOL! I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I saw the subject and knew I wasn't the only one suffering on the sleep subject. I have 4 kids ages 7, 4,4 (yep, twins), and 1. My wife works 7pm-7am 3 nights a week. I am up at 5 to get ready and get lunches and school clothes together (wife helps by setting out most nights before). Wake kids at 6. OTD 6:50. Work 8-5 usually though try to get done early to get in a longer swim with workout (notice not nearly enough time to get in a long ride/run/swim like I am SUPPOSED to be doing before I meet wife at hospital she works at 6:30.) Home at 7. Dinner, clean up, homework, showers. Kids to bed ideally at 8 (yeah right...almost always 9). I stay up with the baby. He will fall asleep around 10. Then he will wake up again no matter how much I feed him at 12:30 to 1am. It takes him an hour to eat cream of wheat or oatmeal and a bottle. Back to sleep *if I can* at 2:30. Wake up again 5am. The 3 hours being the longest I sleep consecutively feels like heaven. The nights I stare at the ceiling until 4:30 are hell. Just when I say to myself I am going to get up and go run, I fall asleep.

I am a master at falling asleep when given any chance. When I'd take the kids to her work, I'd fall asleep within 2 min of curling up all of my 6'3" frame in a little chair in the waiting room.

Weekends....of course I just plain can't sleep.....(sigh)

My body automatically wakes up at 4:30am...no alarm clock...it is just what time I naturally wake...while rehearsing a show, I work 6am -2:30 or 3:30...go to the gym workout...go home and spend time with SO, eat dinner, leave for theatre...rehearse from 6:30 - 9:00 get home and spend some more time with SO...try to get to sleep by 10:30...but usually 11:00...which means 5.5 hours of sleep...by the end of the rehearsal process...I so want sleep.  The crappy thing is that even on weekends, the latest my body will let me sleep is 5:00 or 6:00am...I love naps
