Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:50 to start guzzling coffee and forcing down the two packets of instant oatmeal. Got ready and walked the dog and out the door at 4:45. Made it down to Salt River Tubing to park, used the leu, then boarded a bus for a ride up the hill. (This was the hill I ran up last weekend at RAGNAR)! Got up there with an hour ten to kill before the race. Talked with some weird people, then got in line for the porta potty. I jogges a bit and stretched, and kept checking the loads of people getting off the busses looking for Jen and Josh! After the PoA they yelled my name and we were able to start the race together!

Comments:

Started off with the pac, trying to find my pace, and closely looking at my watch to keep my HR where I wanted it. I didn't want to go out too fast, so I was trying to keep an eye on it, but still....at the 1 mile mark: 7:47. WAY too fast for me!! No way to keep that pace up. Throughout the whole race I pretty much just kept looking at my HR and trying to keep it between 163-166. (Ave turned out to be 165, so I guess I did good). The climbs were killer, and I would not let my HR go above 170 on them. On the down hills I would just let my legs fly and go as fast as I could. Really had to dial it in on the last 4 miles as I was just crispy fried by this point, and it was the worst part of the course!! I checked my watch at the 12 mile mark and knew I could not make 1:50, so I just hammered down and was going to be happy with whatever time I got. Was very happy with my mile split time. Anything sub 9 is good for me, so I was jazzed!

Post race
Warm down:

Drank about 5 glasses of cold water, and some bagels.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My junk in the trunk. If I lost 10 pounds it would make running much easier!

Event comments:

They should have had some Gatoraide at the finish, but only had water. That is really my only complaint.

Performance: Good
Course: This is the time off my watch. I will update with the official results once they are up. It was chip timed, so it should be accurate. Course over all was a downhill, but at mile 3 there was a 1.6 mile steady climb, a few other hills, and then at mile 9 the course just turned to shite. Too much steady climbing for the last 4 miles!!!!

!:52 is very impressive for an old lady. Also do you think there may be a RR some where that says I talked to some weird lady before the race about how to race picking flowers. I heard someone call her name it was Tanya.

(NICE RUN, I would be thrilled with that time.)

THAT was a hilly course, and you ran it like it was nothing.  After all those hills at Ragnar, your legs had to have been fatigued.   I bet there was a major  GRRRR face  at the end

Great job Tanya! You're a helluva athlete!!
