Ok I am about going crazy. I had a huge job interview last week that if I got the job I would double my salary. I was supposed to find out yesturday but no one called. I called today and the secretary told me that his supervisor is in a meeting and will call me when he is done.

Ok so now here is my train of thought....if I didnt get the job wouldnt the supervisor told his secretary to tell me that the position has been filled???? OMG I am scared to leave my cubical!!!!!

I have bitten my fingers nails down to nothin!!!! The suspence is killing me!!!!

Tom-

I wouldn't be too worried. I've gone through many job interviews (and have interviewed many people) and I've only seen one company that has actually responded when they said they would. It usually takes awhile to make staffing decisions (as well as a lot of background work getting any kind of paperwork/contract together once they make those decisions).

Hang in there, be patient, and good luck!!!

Hey, good luck and hang in there. I agree with BlueRover. I've interviewed and hired quite a few people and I think at times the process drives the person doing the hiring more than the potential applicant (who am I kidding...it sucks more for the applicant!) But I once had to string a guy along for a couple weeks. I knew I wanted him but there are so many freakin' hoops to jump through in order to appease the corporate gods of non-reason that I about quit before I could offer the guy the job!

Regardless I'm sending tons of good joo-joo your way.

Agreeing with Ron and having been a hiring mgr, resist the urge to daily assualt the company. You may want to express you interest and ask the secretary/mgr if she knows what the timeframe is on the process as their may me many hoops you have yet to jump through. Also, its not uncommon to keep the 2nd on-the-line until the 1st choice is in the bag, may be a few weeks. And I would never let my secretary deliver the bad news, keep your hopes resonable. But it sounds like your in the running...

Good luck! Hope you get it!

Best of luck with it.  Don't forget to post when you find out (hopefully good news).  Now we're all in suspense!

I would wait until monday just after lunch, then call and ask to speak to your contact.  Unless they told you they would be interviewing for the next week or something.  Good luck!

Well all thanks for the encouraging words. However, I did not get the job. As it turns out, the interview must have been to fill some kind of civil service quota, meaning that they already knew they were not going to hire me before I even got interviewed. I kind of suspected that since he never asked my 1 question at the interview. He just talked for about a 1/2 hour about the job. I guess they have to interview so many people to fullfil the civil service law. Oh well tis life. I have gotten 2 other canvas letters for similar positions so maybe something will become of them. Thanks again everyone.

I hate that!!! I work for the state and there is some rule or law like that also. Somehow it just does not make sense to me. The rule gets fulfilled just by wasting people's time (applicant and interview team) and setting someone's hopes on an unattainable job. There must be some sense to it, but it is lost on me.

Sorry about this let down for you. Good luck next time.

sorry to read that you did not get the job. I believe everything happens for a reason so according to that logic it was not the job for you. Your job is still out there somewhere and you will eventually track it down. Keep the faith!
