Veteran 229 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene This is my second IM and second time at CDA. I'm looking to shave two hours off last years time (I had an injury) Bonnie (leopard8996) is right, get your plan down now and stick to it. Things will go wrong on race day but don't panic, it's a long day. You will want to ride a lot of hills if possible. If you prepare now mentally that you will have to be carted off before you'd quit you will finish. You'll have moments of happiness or euphoria, and you will have moments of uncertainty, and it will be like that through out the race. Just keep moving forward, believe me, the roar of the crowd as you run down the chute is unbelieveable with people screaming, clapping, whistling, smiling all for you. You'll feel like you just won the thing. Remember too that if it was easy everyone would be an Ironman.

Master 1551 Virginia Beach, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene I'm going out to Idaho next week for training camp. I'll be getting in early afternoon on the 24th and hopefully my bike will be ready for pick up in Coeur D'alene. Any advice on a bike route to take for maybe a 1 1/2 to 2 hour ride? Is the oart of the race course easy to follow/how is the traffic? Lots of questions, but I come from a relatively unfriendly bike area. |

Is the oart of the race course easy to follow/how is the traffic? Lots of questions, but I come from a relatively unfriendly bike area. Start at the north end (Ohio Match Road) and follow the rout south until you hit Miles road. Cut back over to Lakeview drive. Head north back on the IM rout. That is where the majority of the hills are located. Not a lot of traffic, and the traffic you will see are used to seeing bikers this time of year. If you would like a more detailed rout PM me. I rode this loop twice Sunday and it was a great ride! One loop is around 26 miles. |

Veteran 229 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Hi Sue, You could ride east from the lake and follow the bike path around the eastern shore. That's part of the official race course. Or, you could point your bike north and take in some of CDA's fine hills

Albuquerque, NM | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Another NM Outlaw here doing CDA. This will be my second IM and our team is starting to ramp up the volume! We just got back from the Rage in the Sage 1/2 iron at Lake Mead! I think it was a good bike course to get ready for the hills at CDA and the swim I heard is very similar too. There has been some great advice in this thread, but I would add one more for the first timers, and that is to take as much in as possible through out the day! It sounds weird, but IMAZ last year went by fast and I was making mental notes to remember things other than pain Looks like we're going to have fun people! |

I just started doing sprint tri's and absolutely love the sport. I manage an italian restaurant downtown and want to invite everyone to stop by and say Hi to a fellow Tri'er. The course is great and you all will have a great time. See you then! |

Veteran 133 Houston, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene I just wanted to bring to everyone's attention that when we post our monthly totals for April, be aware that there were 5 weekends in March and only 4 in April. I thought my bike volume seemed low...but it's just because my long rides are always on the weekend and there was one less! So don't be alarmed! You are not slacking!!!! Can't wait to see how everyone's doing in the next few days.

Member 100 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene This is my first IM. I am terrified and excited. I am full of self-doubt right now and wondering if I made a big mistake signing up. I have learned so much in the last several weeks since I have upped the milage. I know now what I should have been doing all along and wish I had more time. I am so slow on the bike it's crazy. The big question around here isn't wether I am finish, but if I can make the bike time. Doesn't seem to matter where I go, hills, flats I am slow. I can make the hills, but very slow. I use the brakes too much going down. My bike handling has improved alot, but I still scare easy and have trouble eating and drinking on the bike. I have switched to infitnit which helps alot. Less times I need to stopp! Much easier drinking than eating. Right now I am trying to force myself to use my aero bars. Yes, I have been riding over 3 years, and have yet to use them! Well, I have alot invested, so I will be there, and somehow I will make that bike cutoff!!! Tanya |

But I do have wind! Lots of it! I DNF'd my only halg I have tried back in mid April because I was too slow on the bike and they wouldn't let me run. It was a tough course, and the winds were hosrrible. Worse as the day went on and for slow people we had it bad! Glad to see I will be in good company there! |
