Subject: Best Tri Book
Okay Guys, I'm a newbie. I did one YMCA indoor triathlon, and am planning on one in July of this year. Half mile Swim, 10 mile bike and 5k run. I know I can do all these things, but the running is my best because that I've been doing for the past 9 years. Swimming for two years and the bike is now (casual biking previously).

What Tri book would you recommend?
Thanks,
Evelyn

It depends on what you are looking for in a book.  Training programs, intro to Tri's, a book on the Hawaiian Ironman, ect...  I would recommend Triathlon 101 by Mora, it was the first book I read on Tri's and got me hooked.  Nothing too technical, entertaining, good information on transitions, running, biking, swimming basics and a pretty quick read for those of us time challanged.

i learned on the 'triathloning for ordinary mortals' by stephen jonas BUT its for an oly...takes u from nothing to an oly...first running for many months than work in others....to the 13week oly program...maybe a second book?  it IS basic, only focusing on duration and incremental increases.

depends on your goals really, if u want to be competitive...maybe friels TB?  any others people?

I highly recommend a book by Eric Harr called Triathlon Training for the Rest of Us: From Couch to Starting Line in Five Hours a Week....don't let the title fool you. He's not promoting you'll "lose 10 lbs in two days!!!" or "Make $5000 per week working part-time from your bathtub!" I think the point of the title is more to take the awe away from the event, to bring it down to relateable terms that each of us has the potential and the ability to set the time aside to complete a training program.

The book is geared toward the beginner, yes, but it can also appeal to the more experienced...maybe not super uber athlete, but it's got a range of appeal.

He had a range of plans and good listings of equipment you need...and can differentieate between needs and "wants" to be able to participate.

That and Google searches and picking the brain of any triathlete I can find and picking the brains of everyone on this site I think I'm in pretty good shape.

I'm doing my first sprint tri in April an Olympic in june and if the Tri gods are happy with me will shoot for a half ironman in August....

Best of luck to you!

Bought the Eric Harr book on Amazon last night along with a training diary. I alway keep one for running, so I figured I would use a Tri Diary. Thank you all for your input.
