This will not only be my first Olympic, but also my first Tri ever. I am coming down from LA to do it.Excited, nervous, but looking forward to it, though it's going to be cold. I am training for a HIM in May. Do you guys know if we also need our bikes inspected for the Super Seal, or is it only for the Super Frog?

As I understand there is no pre-race bike check this year.  Last year the race was put on by a group associated with the Navy, and the race was more or less on base, so there was asafety check of the bikes.  This year Koz Enterprises has taken over the organization of the race and they don't have a bike safety check.  I see no mention of it on the Koz website, and the fact that checkin is at Paradowski's rather than at a place in Coronado (the safety check was at a bike shop in Coronado), I think there is no bike check this year.

Great. It may have been a leftover from last year's race then. Does this mean we can show up on Racde Day with all our gear and check in around 7am?

And yes, I am doing Florida 70.3 on May 18th.

Yeah, it appears so. I plan to pick up my stuff on Saturday, but I don't see anything stating there's no longer race day pickups. I believe it was an option listed on the registration page.

Also, for better or worse, looks like we will be starting fairly late for once. 9 AM! I just wonder if they will be securing the transition area prior to the Superfrog people starting, or letting Superseal people in later in the morning.

Here's the schedule from their site:

6 April 2008 - Race Day
0530 SUPERFROG Registration Opens
0600 Highway 75 Traffic rerouted
0700 Wheel-Chair Divisions Racers Start
0700 Individual and Relay Team Racers Brief
0705 Individual SUPERFROG Racers - Start
0730 SUPERSEAL Registration Opens
0745 Relay Team Racers - Start
0830 SUPERFROG Swim Course closed
0845 SUPERSEAL heats report to start line
0900 SUPERSEAL begins
1030 SUPERSEAL Swim Course closed
1200 Bike Course Closed
1300 Open Highway 75 to Vehicle Traffic
1400 Run Course Closed (TBD)
1430 Begin Award Ceremony

And very cool about the Florida 70.3. I'm doing that race as well.

Race Day Check in...

According to the Koz Web page:

"All athletes must attend the mandatory race check-in to pick up their race materials. Athletes will sign the race waiver and pick up their timing chip, race numbers, swim cap and t-shirt.

Check-in is at Paradowski's Swim & Sport on Saturday April 5, 2008 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

If you are unable to attend, choose the mail back option or VIP check-in.

THERE IS A $10 LATE PACKET PICK UP FEE ON RACE MORNING"

So if you don't pick up your stuff Saturday, expect to pay some kind of late fee on Sunday...

Here's what they said:

Hi Mikkel,

We do not require bike inspection for the race this year. If you would like to have you bike inspected prior to the race just for yourself, then you can bring your bike to the expo and we will have a bike technician at the Nytro booth. If you need anything else please let me know. Thanks and have a great day.

Mikkel,

You will need to p/u your race packet at the SUPERFROG EXPO on Saturday between 10 and 3pm. I believe there will be a bike station there.

Natallie, can you give Mikkel info on the EXPO and bike inspection?

Aloha,

If we want to park near the start, it looks like we all have to get there before they close the HWY 75 at 6AM. I think the only way to Silver Strand state beach is via the 75. But then it's a 3 hour wait before our race begins.

The other option is to park up at Glorietta bay park and ride about 2.5-3 miles down to Silver Strand beach park. I don't know what the total number of enrants to both races are, but I imagine even if you had the worst transition spot left, I don't think you'd have to run too far to your spot.

What do you guys think?

Hmmm, I'm not exactly sure how they have it set up. It says they are closing HWY 75, but where are they closing it at? I'm guessing the race goes up and down the strand so I would think you could still get there from the north, coming over the Coronado bridge. Oddly enough the directions on the KOZ website are backwards for from the North vs From the South. From the south they tell you to go all the way up to the Coronado Bridge and from the North they tell you to go way down to Palm and then come back up the strand heh. In any case my plan is going to be to come in from the North over the bridge and just get as close as possible and I will ride in the rest of the way, I don't expect it will be too much trouble, 2-3 miles on flat ground 1.5 hours before the race starts won't be any problem. When I pick my bib up on Saturday I will ask them what they recomend though.

I ride the strand at least one day a week, and a decent area might be to park at the end of 13th street, and then ride the bike path to the start. You'd need a back pack to carry your stuff, but its only a couple miles and would probably make for a decent warm up.

Hopefully we'll get more guidance when we pick up our race packets.

As for times, what are you all shooting for?

Also, to save you guys the trouble, here are the routes for the swim, bike and run:

I was planning on asking them at the Expo tomorrow about parking etc. Since this is my first ever Tri I am hesitant about giving times, but I am hoping for the following: 40min swim, 1:10 Bike, 50 Run with 5 minutes for transitions for a total of 2:45, but given I have never done it before there's plenty that can alter that. Good luck to everyone.

I will be happy with anything under 2:45 but my goal time is 2:35. It's going to take a great day for me to hit that. Here is my hopeful break out:

0:30:00 swim (this will take a monumental effort for me)
0:04:00 T1 (I plan on being pretty dizzy coming out of the water)
1:14:30 bike (20 mph avg, will take a huge effort to get this, need for it to not get too windy)
0:01:30 T2 (shouldn't be too hard)
0:45:00 run (If my legs aren't too cooked from the bike I should be able to get this)

This is my first Olympic distance race though so who knows how it will go. Very excited and surprisingly I'm actually not nervous at all right now! I think because I have spent the last 5 months training hard for the Wildflower HIM next month I have a lot of confidence at doing this distance even though I haven't raced it before.

Hi Everyone!

Same here - my first Olympic distance triathlon. As most of you are, I am nervous and excited. I'll be participating in the Clydes group wearing a yellow cap and my bib number is 514.

I'll be happy to complete the race in 3:30 hrs or less, but any time will be my PR

Good luck to all!

Just got back from the expo. Talked to one of the race officials there about parking, and due to the limited parking at the beach, its either get there extra early and hope the Superfrog people didn't take up all the spots (which is doubtful), or find somewhere else to park. Also, they are going to have to bunch traffic up and get them into the parking lots between waves and/or groups of people, so expect lots of traffic. Also, he explained getting in may be tough, getting out later even tougher.

I'm in wave #7 (30-39 I believe) which starts at 9:25. My plan is to get to 13th street by 7:15-7:30, jump on the bike path, and just take an easy 10 minute ride to the transition area. Will be a good warm up anyways.

Here's where I'll be parking:

If anyone wants to meet up and ride over together, just let me know, and we can adjust the time as needed.

I don't think I'll be getting up super early to try to get parking at Silver Strand State Beach.
I plan on getting to Glorietta Bay Park around 7AM and riding down to the transition area.

It's my first oly distance, so I really have no idea what my finish time will be... could be 2:45, could be 3:30.

Good luck to all of you have a fun and safe race!

Either way, I'm PM you my cell phone number. I'll be there at 7am, driving a green Titan truck with a shell on it.

It would be great meeting you too. I am planning to be there pretty early, get into the mood and cheer my fellow swim group members - who are all doing the super frog.

Good luck to everyone!

Here is my info:

Bib# 668
Orange Cap
Male 25-30
Wave #6 @ 9:20

I'm going to just find some parking around 7:15 with a couple of my friends from my gym and we are going to ride in. Seems to be the easiest method. Very excited!! I am a little concerned though. I went to a BBQ today and ended up playing beach volleyball for about an hour in the sand and sun, not a good idea the day before a race!!! My legs are already getting sore from it I'm hoping they will be feeling fine for tomorrow!
