Any tri-clubs or training groups around the Lakeland area. Thinking about joining the Mad Dog club but that will definitely kill training time driving to St. Pete. THanks

There is a tri club with the downtown YMCA in Lakeland, I also believe that there is a tri club or group through Fit Niche and maybe the Lakeland runners club.

I don't know of an official tri club, but there are a lot of us that live here in central florida and train locally.  I run Lake Hollingsworth and ride Van Fleet trail in Polk City frequently, as well as several other BTer's.  Would be happy to have you join us!!

Is the Van Fleet trail off road or paved. And I would love to join a group ride some time.

It's paved, it's a nice ride with little traffic and only a couple of road crossings. It's my favorite place to train on the bike. Of course you might want to check out my post on creatures that I have encountered on a bike. All of them were on Van Fleet.

April 3 at Fit Niche in Lakeland at 7pm is Tri night.  They are going to have some speakers and also try to organize an official Polk County Tri club. They are also going to offer discounts on all their triathlon gear that they will be revealing that night.

When do you meet at the Van Fleet Trail?  How far do you ride, and what pace?  Do you draft?

That is great. I will be at fit niche for that. I am actually going there tomorrow to have a gait analysis done and get some new kicks. Thanks for the info.

Tri club:  Tri-Amigos Tri club.  most of us live in Brandon/Lithia.  website:   http://www.trifreddie.com/id64.html

The only problem I, as a chick, have with the Van Fleet trail, is it's not monitored that I can see.  With Flatwoods and Suncoast you always see the Rangers going around and also more folks are out.  As I went farther north up the VanFlat trail, it got spooky and desolated, so I turned back at about mile 18 or 19 from the start.   Plus there's no bathrooms at the start, you gotta ride 10 miles to it!

I don't belong to the MadDogs.  The Amigos go to OW swims sometimes and have group rides.

Strawberry Ride this weekend!  Not too far from Bartow!
