Comments: The first six miles went well. Hit the 10k mark in 49:07 - definitely wanted to be below 50 minutes so that was good. Took a power gel shortly after at the next water station. After that it got tough though. Cardiovascularly, I was in good condition, but my legs were not up to par. The last couple miles the legs felt like cement blocks. What would you do differently?: Train more...especially outside. I trained mostly on a 0% incline treadmill. My goal was to be below 1:20. I was so close, but not quite good enough. I definitely felt like I could have pushed it and hit it. Next year my goal is 1:15. Post race
Warm down: Wait for friends to finish and grab a muffin, gatorade, water, and FINALLY hit the bathroom! Just kept passing them up and glad I did because it didn't affect me at all during the race. Then post race meal and drinks at Lauriol Plaza. It's becoming a tradition. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor training. Event comments: Only my second 10 miler, but a great event overall. Also have to give a plug to my wife. She kicked a$$!!! 1:14:56 and 51st in her age group. Just plain awesome. Two mini bagels with a bit of cream cheese. Banana. 24oz Gatorade. Coffee.
Walk from cab to corral. Figured I would use the first mile or so as warmup. Longest run this year was 8 miles on the treadmill so I didn't want to waste too much warming up. Got there to late to hit portapotty. Yikes. Figured I'd hit it on the run.
