Subject: Garmin upload question

I finally was able to upload from my Garmin to BT today..very thrilled. I transfered my long ride from yesterday. Interesting feet climbing vie Route tracker is 40% of what my Garmin said which really didn't surprise me.

I wanted to do upload my 1/2 Mary to see how hilly it was. I went into history on my Garmin then tried uploading it and got my ride from yesterday. How should I do it so it works?

Before I bother Mike or Ron, I figured someone here could help me. I'm not great with technology stuff....

The 305 is not accurate at all to report Total Ascent. This is a general rule for cheap GPS systems like Garmin 305.

Polar S625X is a great instrument to report total Ascent: probably the best commercial equipment around for that purpose.

When you upload from the Garmin there will be a dropdown menu in the BT window of the history on your Garmin. Just choose the date of the run you want.

I found that resetting the elevation on the rout tracker will give a pretty accurate elevation. It takes a while because there are a lot of data points.

Good luck!!

Bob,

Thanks for the tips. I tried it again and saw the drop down but it only downloaded one track which is my last workout in my Garmin.

I find others in my history directly in my Garmin.

Any suggestions?

LOL. That's pretty good. "Cheap GPS systems like the Garmin 305". I've never used a Polar, but the Garmin 305 has been extremely accuarate for my running, biking, and open water swimming.  No cheesy foot-pods, or cadence sensors to worry about. No recalibrating for different surfaces/different shoes etc... etc...  I agree, the altimeter is better on the Polar but... who cares??

Oh.. I see.. you're in Switzerland!! I see why you might care!  Now I can see your bias!  For most of us flatlanders, the GPS is much better than the pod/sensor systems (IMHO).  But to each his own to be sure...

Continued success to you!...

I did not say I prefer Polar in general! I just reported how the Garmin altimeter accurate is.

In general, I prefer the 305 and I use it on most of my running races but on the bike for example I use the Polar.

And if I go to a hilly running race, I bring the Polar again since the distance is well measured with km indication on the track while the altimetry not!
