Pre-race routine:

Had a glass of OJ a couple blueberry muffins, and a banana. Setup transition, got timing chip and headed back to the car to stay warm until 20 mins before racetime then went for a warmup run.
Event warmup:

A little stretching and a little running to loosen up.
Run
  • 17m 47s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 07m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run for me despite starting in the mid/back of the group. Took a while to get into a good run. Passed many people. No hydration on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Sneak a little farther up in the group at the start. Snag a quick sip of water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Yeah, terribad. I had forgotten my water bottles and only had a regular screw on cap water bottle from the ice bin at the race site.So i chugged as much water as i could since i knew drinking on the ride wouldnt happen to often.
What would you do differently?:

Remember my water bottles would be good.
Bike
  • 49m 41s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.11 mile/hr
Comments:

Not real strong on the bike but working on it. Started to rain on the 2nd lap and my feet and face were freezing, couldnt see through my glasses either. Tried to drink a couple times but the screw on cap water bottle made things , ummm interesting.
What would you do differently?:

Really need to make myself push on the bike harder and get my heart rate up. Needed more hydration.
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

A little better, but need to get quicker at trans.
Run
  • 19m 11s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt decent on second run, passed a few more people here. Was really feeling it on the short climb to the finish line. No hydration on this run either.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate.
Post race
Warm down:

Pizza and Sprite :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Didnt hydrate like i should've. Bike needs to get stronger. Do more bricks. Got to get my transition times quicker. Still a newb and learning :)

Event comments:

Well organized race, volunteers at every turn of the bike course. Race announcer was really good according to my wife and kids. Results were posted quickly after race. Ive only done a couple races but this one seemed really good and would definatley do another Maxtrax event.

Good race John!!

The annoucers name is James Dean (i think it funny that he has a celebrity name as well)  He said your name about 100 times.  Everytime i heard your name, i was in place were i couldnt get over an introduce myself.   Did you have a "tour of missouri" jersey on?  Sorry we didnt get a chance to meet.  Are you coming over to Race for Sight?   Maybe i can actually meet you then.     Again good race!!

Haha, yeah he got a kick out of my name, it was excellent. I'll definatley be there for Race for Sight with a first time tri friend. Afterwards we've got to hustle back to STL for an MS group ride at 1:00 , so unfortunatley i won't be able to hang out for long. I'll prbably be wearing my 2xU tri suit depending on the weather.  I'm excited and a little nervous about the race being that i just really learned to swim in the last 2 months.  Best of luck on raceday Josh.

peace,

John
