All valid points. To add more to your argument, you could always put the suit on ebay too.

lrobb - 2008-08-03 11:29 AM Congrats Fenster! Where was this?? We had one in state yesterday called the Willow Lake tri, IIRC.

Thanks.

It Starts in the Quaker Lake side of Allegany State Park, which is in south western NY, and ends in Bradford, PA.   It's a very scenic route.

This is a video of last year.

Tiny,

Here we have something called Play it again Sports. It sells used sporting equipment.

You can buy a used wet suit for as little as 15 dollars. Now they are normally surf suits. Shoulder mobility isnt great, but it floats you just as well as a tri wet suit.

If you bought a bib john style, meaning the look like farmer john jeans, the shoulder thing would not matter as much. Its just has narrow straps over the shoulders, no sleeves but covers your chest and legs. That should work fine.

Well our plans have changed. She is having problems breathing while swimming in her Tri Suit that I bought her. She is large chested for her body size so one piece clothing is difficult for her to buy and is getting more difficult as she loses more weight. Her suit fits in the bottom but is too tight on her chest so she is going to swim in a plain swim suit because we don't have much time to get her a two piece tri suit which we could buy in different sizes. That will be something for us to think about after these two races.

I put down our 400 yard times for the race this weekend based on time we swam in a 25 meter pool about 1 month ago. We checked them last night by doing a race speed 400 yards. I put down 9:30 for me and 11:00 for my wife. I realized that the difference in the pool length is kind of important. My 400 yard time was just under 8 min and hers was 9:15 so I guess we will be passing some folks this weekend.

you might see if they can change it -- it can be kinda rough passing people in the pool, depending on how it's set up.

Yes! Got into Julie Swail Ertel's tri class for the fall semester. The same Julie Swail on the US Olympic Team right now in Beijing.

3 hours a week until Christmas probably wont get me on any podiums.

Don't think I picked the right parents for triathlon either.

But hopefully I will be faster and have even more fun than I do now.

Swimming, biking and running ?

Dunno yet, course catalog just shows triathlon class and Julie Swail Ertel as the instructor.

3 hours every Tuesday night for 16 weeks.

Meet at the school pool.

Am sure its going to be very basic stuff, as lots of people are just getting into tri's here locally.

Man I wish I could take a class.

Well I finished my first official race Sunday Wahoo!

I posted a race report but it is very basic. I spent about 20 min filling in all the data and when I tried to post it there was a connection issue and when I went back to submit it again the page was blank. I got frustrated and just put in the times.

But the overview goes like this

400 yard swim: 7:38 (personal best) 1:54 min/100 I am very stoked with this I felt like I was swimming in concrete but ended up doing very well.

8 mile bike: 29:01 (includes T1 they didn't break out the transitions) even with the transition incuded this is 1.5 mph over my goal of 15 mph avg in the race.

1.8 mile run: 19:07 (rode pretty hard and sufferd on the run because of it)

Over all: 55:46 My goal was to finish the race in under an hour so I was very happy with the results. Now I have a metric to measure against for next year.

Sunday my wife and I are running the full sprint in North East MD. My goal for this race is to finish it in under 2 hours. I am not sure if I can keep the same pace that I ran her for twice the distance but I have 8 min of room to drop the pace abit and still hit my goal.

I am offically addicted to Triathlons. We were using this race to figure out what we wanted to do for the longer race and it did just that. I found out that I didn't drink enough water with my gel. My wife figured out that even when she freaked completely out on the swim she could still finish. And we got the transition set up down fairly well.

At our tri this past weekend we found out about a kids triathlon website that has info on starting a kids tri club at our kids school> I think that I might look into doing that this year.

My two oldest ran the kids tri last weekend and are hooked.

My first official Sprint distance race complete.

I missed my target time by 5 min but I know where the missing time is and I will be working on that prior to my next race in September.

I have posted my race report.

Thank you to all who helped, mentored, inspired and provided feedback.

I'm not seeing any links in your messages. But yeah, you won't see much TI at any of the Olympic swim events. There's one 1500 swimmer that has a pretty significant glide in his stroke, but I can't remember which right now. And when you get out of the pool into open water surrouned by a couple hundred of your best friends... fuggedaboutit!
