Pre-race routine:

Ran around like chickens when hubbie realized he forgot his timing chip in his transition bag.....moments after transition closed! We went to both sides and they wouldn't let him in. Had to find a porta-potty. Hung out with hubby until his wave went off, then I went back to our stuff and who was hanging out with our shoes, but Sister Madonna Buder! We had met her previously yesterday, so we were chatting about how she got started in triathlon, her experiences in the Boston Mary 6 days ago, etc when Christine came over with cracked goggles.A quick trip to the announcer took care of that crisis! Posed for pictures with Sister M.

Started on the left and did OK. The wave behind caught up to me by the first turn, but at least it was mostly my wave and the one behind by the finish...with just a few of the other wave. Did mostly freestyle, a lot of breast on the last leg...swam right into the stairs and before I knew what was happening, some magic hand pulled me right up those stairs!
What would you do differently?:

I dunno.....learning to really swim would only save me about 10 minutes. Is it really WORTH all that time?
Transition 1
  • 04m 11s

Looked for family, not at all surprised they weren't there yet. Its genetically IMPOSSIBLE for my family to ever make it anyplace on time. EVER.
Ran past hubbies rack and saw that his bike was gone: Good. He survived the swim!

PAM really helped get the suit off!
What would you do differently?:

Run, run, run.

Not horribly windy, but there was some wind. Ride was mostly effortless. All that HIM training is paying off! Had gone 17.5 miles at the 1 hour mark. Had a gel at the beginning of the bike, another one around mile 18 or so. Picked up a bottle of gatorade at the bottle exchange...Sue passed me right after that! (YAY! Last year, she passed me on the cobblestone!), so then the race became ALL ABOUT catching back up to Sue....then it became try to keep Sue in visual distance....maybe not that smart to push it so hard then, but I did get my average up some.

Close to the end, there was a motorcycle pissing me off. I know now it was the course marshals...but I was so annoyed cuz they were hogging the entire left lane of the road and it forced me behind a slower guy who I had no room to get around...and we were TURNING. I guess this is where I picked up a drafting penalty.

Overall, this was a bike PR for me. SEVENTEEN minutes faster bike than last year!
Learned that I don't have a good handle on cornering with the new bike yet. There was one turn where I was very, very happy there was no-one around me. I gotta practice turning at much higher speeds.

What would you do differently?:

Back off around the course marshalls!
Transition 2
  • 04m 45s

Finally saw family near the bike of course, I almost toppled over! I don't know if it really happened but if FELT like the back wheel just lifted up when I stopped and I must have looked unsteady cuz a volunteer steadied me. Yay. Walked back to rack my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Run, run, run
  • 1h 28m 48s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 14m 18s  min/mile

Took an endurolyte in transition. Brought the leftover gatorade from the bike with me on the run. Saw the BT crowd to the left on the way out! Thanks for cheering!! Kept pouring water over my head and chest...ended up with a puddle in my left shoe by mile 1. Saw Sue again!! She was running FAST! A while later, cheered for Scott Rigsby. Saw hubbie while I was at mile 3...knew there was a CHANCE I could lap him! Worked it hard, but he finished first.
Post race
Warm down:

Saw Owen & Claudie in the finish chute! Met hubbie at designated spot, got some muffins & headed to the car to meet up with family (who never did figure out where the finish was). Then, we all headed to my uncles for Easter Dinner.

Event comments:

Excellent race!

PB on the bike by 17 minutes rocks! I'm guessing you and the Kuota have a good thing going

What was your overall PB?

You are such a rule breaker...just like like me last year;:

Excellant race and how cool it is that you and your husband both did it this year!

You have made excellent progress this year in so many ways...proud of you!

Nice job - I must have been near you the entire time, because I remember see Rigsby sometime before Mile 1 or so.
