St. Anthony's Triathlon
73F / 23C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 24m 5s
Overall Rank = 397/3548
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 60/418
Pre-race routine:

Bowl of Smart Start, 3Bar, Watered down Gatorade
Event warmup:

Jog to the swim start because I screwed around in transition too long
Swim
  • 28m 4s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Water was pretty choppy, wind coming straight at us on the start caused us to swim into the current. Then, on the back in part the same waves that should have been carrying us to the finish were actually bouncing off of the break wall and creating an undertow. So essentially, it felt like an against the current swim the entire way. Also the most Ultimate Fighting Championship start I have ever experienced in Triathlon. People were REALLY aggressive this year. Had my goggles knocked off for the first time ever. All in all though, a good swim (actually a PR) given the conditions.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep putting in time and effort. Slowly getting better and age group ranking is starting to steadily improve
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

This was a really good transition. Felt great getting out of the water, everything went on well. Best T1 of any Oly Tri I have done.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 00m 54s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 24.48 mile/hr
Comments:

What can I say, I PR'd over Chicago by 2 min and cut 5:45 off of last year. The riding is paying off. I had an absolute blast on this ride!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

This was also a PR T2 for an Oly. Really good. Only challenge was getting the watch strap on, need to practice.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 51m 47s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Was a little hot, but found some shade. Came out super strong and felt great through about 2.5 miles, then started to tighten up. Need to work with Dror so that I am consistent. I do not like the fading times. However, this is an Oly PR after a smokin' fast bike, so I cannot complain.
What would you do differently?:

I think I need more Tempo runs, less long stuff. However, my training is for IMLP, not Oly's. After IMLP I will focus on Oly's and 70.3's
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank beers, had some chow.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being short and a touch fat.

Event comments:

Phil LaHaye and his team produce an awesome race. This is more of an event!
