Anyone know if there'll be wetsuit strippers at this race?  If not, I'll need to practice removing my wetsuit without falling over...:(

probaly not. We did not have them last year and it looks that way again this year. They will assist you out of the water and grab your zipper strap for you but that's about it. If they do have them then consider it a bonus.

Start practicing.

It's a loooong run from the swim exit to transition so try to get most of it done on the move.

Any advantage to removing the wetsuit near the swim exit, then running with it to T1?  Easier to remove with wetter legs?

The pros in past years have run with their wetsuits on. They start to remove their tops while making the run from the water to the bike. It's a long run so you'll have plenty of time to get you arms out. Once in T1 and at your bike loose the rest of the wetsuit.

Go to http://www.kreutzphotography.com/and click the Purchase Photos tab. To the right of the page is a Power Search box. Put in Bonney and then choose Cap Tex 2006. It shows what James does when he make the run from the water to the bike.

Per my coach... remove it right when you get out of the water. Step off to the side and get it off ASAP.

As you may notice, when you exit the water in a wetsuit, the layer of water is still there between you and the wetsuit.

Once you start to walk... or run... up to transition all of that drains out... making it harder to remove.

So get it off right after you exit the water, out of the way of people exiting.

Good luck on the race!

The fastest way is to get it down to your waist then run to transition. Then when you get to your bike pull it down to your ankles and work it off as much as you can by stepping on it and lifting the other leg. All the while you are getting your helmet on, # and whatever. Then if you need to finish it off with your hands after your helmet is on, do so, then go.

Are there any rules that say you could not buddy up with another athlete and strip eachother?

I would say it is against the rules to get the wetsuit removed but not to help.  I am assuming it is similar to assistance on the bike correct??

One additional question here: For the Olympic distance why is there a mandatory bike check in the day prior? Do we leave our bikes in the transition area overnight?

Saturday, May 24, 2008, Auditorium Shores:
1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Olympic Distance mandatory BIKE CKECK-IN at transition area

In the races that I have done that is the standard.

You check your bike into transition the day before and rack it at your spot and it stays overnight. Some people cover the bike so it doesnt get wet if it rains or from the morning dew.

They even ask this of the Sprint distance - what is the point of this besides having a wet bike in the morning?
