Age Group Rank = 2/3
Pre-race routine:

Got up around 5:30 had a bananna and rice cake with a cup of coffee. Left the house at 7:00 and had a power bar along the way. It was 40 degrees when we left the house!
Event warmup:

Got my stuff in the transition area and put my wet suit on. I used pam on my legs and body glide on the top half. Walked down to the beach and stretched a bit, and than walked back to transition.
Swim
  • 10m 17s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

I took Kathy G's advice and started in the front of the pack. I got kicked alot in the begining but then was able to settle into a pace. At the last 100 I kicked hard and breathed only every 4-6 strokes which was hard but I wanted to break from the pack I was swimming with. Last year I swam this in 10:40 so I did improve. I also think this course was more like 600. The water was COLD!!!!!!!!
What would you do differently?:

Sight better. The bouys were on the right and I typically breathe on the left so I did find myself not swimming very straight especially out to the first bouy
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

I had a bike jacket that needed to be zipped and I wore socks because it was @#$%ing cold. I had a hard time getting my jacket zipped because I was shivering. I took my gloves and then threw them to my family when I realized I wouldn't get them on. Last year T1 in this race was 2:46 and I didn't have a wet suit so not to bad
What would you do differently?:

Slip on jacket. NO ZIPPERS. Forget the gloves
Bike
  • 44m 34s
  • 11.8 miles
  • 15.89 mile/hr
Comments:

I am disappointed on my bike performance. I have been riding quite a bit and expected better time. I did this in 44:13 last year and have done it in 40 min when practicing. I don't really know what happened
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Took 30 sec off last year T2 time. Felt good getting off the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Get Yanks laces. I have them but didn't use them
Run
  • 27m 4s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 44s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

NOTHING
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and found my family and Tara who I swim train with. Had some water and my kids brought me chocolate, which I promptly ate!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The cold water and air made the swim and the T1 Hard!

Event comments:

Had a Great DAY. PR on the Swim and the Run. It was Mothers Day and I wore a tshirt that said "RUN LIKE A MOTHER". This generated a lot of fun conversation during the run and after the race. By the time the race was over the temps had risen to 65 and it was sunny and beautiful. I had a great day. Won 2nd in my age group...even though there were only 3 ofus and one DNF I don't care!!!! I beat my time from last year by 5:25 which was pretty significant!

hey, I saw you!  (I remember the shirt!)   I would have said hi if I realized you were a BT'er - I was sitting behind you during the awards with a big black dog, my husband raced yesterday.

congrats on the hardware.

Great job yesterday.  You deserved it, no matter how many people were there.  Practicing swimming in the freezing cold for the past couple of weeks paid off.  Thanks for all the encouragement.

Sweet race!

Congrats on the improvement and the hardware!

Weather conditions make huge impact on pace so be kind to yourself your cycling is getting stronger..look at your workouts.

You learned that swim distances are often wrong...look you were in top 1/3 overall placement wise.

Great way to celebrate Mother's Day!
