Swim
Comments: There was a lot of bad placement this year in terms of pacing. I was passed once or twice and had an awful time trying to get past a few people that were really too slow for their position. In particular, I fought to get around a guy who was taking over the entire lane in both directions! Nonetheless, I still managed to pull off my best swim yet. Guess I underestimated myself! What would you do differently?: I'd been practicing once a week. I need to up that to twice at least. Also, I need to get to where I do the whole thing in crawl instead of alternating with breaststroke. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. Bike
Comments: Thought I kept a good pace here since I wasn't as winded after the swim as I was last year. In reality? I did the same as last year to within a second! Guess I'm predictable. What would you do differently?: I'm fairly happy with my pace in biking, since I need so much more work in running and swimming. Transition 2
Comments: Slow transition. I still haven't figured out how to wrangle a jogging bra over a wet swimsuit in less than a minute. Maybe one day! Run
Comments: At the beginning of the run, I switched from trying to beat last years pace to just trying to make it without stopping. The time absolutely reflects that. OTOH, I did have my foot x-rayed five days before for a possible fracture, so the fact that I was running at all is pretty good. What would you do differently?: I needed to do more training running, and not just increase distance but get a sense of pacing. I've never _timed_ my runs, so it's no wonder I don't really have a good sense of how I'll do. Running is a strong point of most of the other competitors, so it'd be nice to bring up my running to the level of my swimming and biking. Post race
Warm down: Walking, stretching, food! What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to train more, especially the running. I also need to get better at transitions. I need to find good tri wear that is cool (since I overheat so damned easily!) and supporting (big women, you know what I mean.) On the plus side, had I actually been in the Athena category which I qualify for, I'd have come in in the top half! Event comments: This is a wonderful starter race. It sets my goals for the season and gives me a sense of what to focus on. Bravo Sudbury! Last updated: 2008-05-13 12:00 AM
