Overall Rank = 29/237
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 6/33
Pre-race routine:

We got up at 4:30 AM and left the house around 5:15 to drive to the race. Got there around 6:30 and got my race packet and timing chip. Had a PB&J sandwich and Powerbar an hour before start time.
Event warmup:

Just stretched my arms a little bit standing on the beach.
Swim
  • 13m
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was one of the few people who didn't have a wetsuit. I still think it's kind of annoying that wetsuits have a proven time benefit, but they're still legal. It seems like they should be illegal for anything over 60 F.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I can think of.
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

I had the 3rd fastest T1 time for the whole race. I guess because I was one of the few without a wetsuit. I had a really good transition time, but once I was out on the bike course, I had a really hard time getting my shoes on. It was kind of hilly, and my wet feet kept sticking to the shoes, so instead of sliding into the shoes, they were catching on the top material.
What would you do differently?:

I've practiced getting into my shoes on the bike, but I guess I need to practice it wet.
Bike
  • 46m 41s
  • 16 miles
  • 20.56 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the bike. There was a guy who he and I kept passing each other at the beginning. At one point he passed me, and I kept him in my sights a couple hundred yards ahead of me for most of the race, so that I wasn't drafting off him, but it helped push me. Finally, near the end, I made my move and passed him back. He ended up getting ahead of me in T2 though, cause I saw him ahead of me when I started on the run, and I never caught him. I talked to him after the race a little bit though, and he seemed like a pretty good guy.
What would you do differently?:

I haven't been training as much this year as I did last year. I need to pick it up a little bit.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

I learned a good trick of putting my race belt on as I was running out of transition, so I think that helped. I don't think I got my running shoes on very fast though.
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting the running shoes on quicker.
Run
  • 22m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good. When I first started, my hamstrings were pretty sore but they loosened up pretty quickly.
What would you do differently?:

This is the best I've felt on the run part of a tri. Now that I have my orthotics, I just need to keep adding more mileage to my training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little bit near the finish area, and stretched a little bit.

Event comments:

Setup Events always puts on a good race. I really liked this venue. The scenery was beautiful, especially the swans taking flight from the lake. It was great that it was overcast, cause it helped keep the run cool, and the water wasn't as cold as I was afraid of.

Course: The course was actually 16 miles, not 15. I had 16.28 on my cyclocomp, but that included the transition area. I was talking to another guy afterwards, and he said he started his at the mount/dismount line, and it was 16. I marked the course as smooth, cause it was for the most part; but there were a few rough spots.
