Does anyone know of a good web site that can count up your calorie intake for you by telling them what you are eating/and how much you are exercising/lifestyle issues...etc. I`m worried my intake is to low, but wont change it until I hear it from an expert. I have been SO tired lately and trying to train hard for my tri in March but the way I`m going I feel like I will be in a hospital bed by then. Thanks guys, if anyone is a nutritionalist and can help me I will be happy and very thankful.

Tiz,

Although I'm not a nutritionalist I try and eat healthy and montor my food intake. As athletes we cannot ignore the importance of our diets for good performance. Whether training or racing. When I visited a nutritionalist we determined the amounts of carbohydrates, protein and fat that I required for training. My calorie intake is based on these amounts. For example this is a sample of my diet intake. This is a peak training so the numbers would be high for this time of year.

  • Carbohydrate: 562g
  • Protein: 92.4g
  • Fat: 77g

Total calories is around 3300 for the day. I'm currently around 2500/day as my training volume isn't as high as it would be in the spring. If you want to obtain nutritional information on different types of foods try this website.

Good Luck,

One thing you may want to do is get your Resting Metabolic Rate tested. This will tell you how many calories you burn a day without doing a thing. Mine is 1,800. So I know that if I eat around 2,000 calories and have a good workout I should slowly lose weight. This number will change as you get more fit. If your eating way below your RMR then your body will be tired from all of the workouts. Make sure your taking plenty of rest days.

You can get some very detailed nutrition info from http://www.nutritiondata.com/ but it is harder to use than fitday.
