Subject: Daughter's First 5k!
My six year-old daughter finished her first 5k today (41:15), while my nine year-old son took 4:30 off last year's time for 25:15. I probably should have rested for my race tomorrow, but since my HR averaged 116, it was worth it.

Dang, 8 minute mile for a nine year old is nice!
That's usually what I average

Kids develop a sense of rules and such at about 7 or 8. I'm sure you all had a fun time. I ran a race with my two boys (3 and 5 yo) a couple weeks ago. It was great fun. My kids got frustrated that other kids were passing them, but we encouraged them to have fun and it went much better after that. I'm very interested in this subject for encouraging our kids in things like this. I've heard of some amazing kids on this site and I'm sure you guys had a great time. I think it can be a fun family activity.

Last year I was golfing and beside the course was a soccer field. I could here a man yelling at the top of his lungs. Unless there's a bear on the field, there's no reason for that. It's too bad when we forget to make sure it's a positive thing, but it's an easy trap to fall in when it's your kids. I wouldn't go over the time too much with the 6 year old. Remember to keep the experience a fun one. It doesn't hurt that they did well, however. You must be proud.
