Total Time = 1h 07m 50s
Overall Rank = 111/144
Age Group = Female
Age Group Rank = 66/96
Pre-race routine:

Nightmare - oversleplt and was woken by my freind who I was picking up. Rushed about gathering gear, bombed across to Stirling. Ran out of the car with the bikes and transition stuff, registered, shoved stuff together in transition, listened to brief and realised I had only put a number on my front and not my back! Bought race belt and really grim carb bar, added number to belt and handed to marshall to put with my bike. Ate grim bar for breakfast (euck!) finally calmed down, got a coffee and chilled for 30 mins then got changed.
Event warmup:

Not much, few lengths in the pool!
Swim
  • 08m 41s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

It was an O.K. swim but yet again I miss timed how long it would take me a lost a lot of time waiting to overtake people - totally my own fault really. I managed to pace O.K. but the lane marhsall never made it clear that I was on my last 2 and if I'd have know I'd have pushed a little bit harder.
What would you do differently?:

Sign up with a realistic time, try and calm my breathing/pace. Push a little harder at the end.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Not bad, almost touched bike without the helmet on, lots of grit on the floor so putting on socks was difficult and I had forgotten a towel.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a towel.
Bike
  • 38m 56s
  • 11 kms
  • 16.95 km/hr
Comments:

This was hard for me as it required a consistent push. The other 2 tri's I've done were more hilly so I could push for a while then take a rest, this was a case of slogging it out. Also phsychologically the way out seemed to go on forever.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder - although not much, I think I'd have felt beter if I knew the route better so maybe next time I'll take the opportunity to look into it more.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

No realy problems
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I don't think
Run
  • 19m 13s
  • 2.5 kms
  • 07m 41s  min/km
Comments:

For me the run was very good, I felt strong through most of it and it was the most compfrtable Tri run I've done ( which shows in my time). It took a little time for me to get relaxed into it but even towards the end I still felt strong. I did really want to beat the woman I was near at the end but she sprinted fast right past me at the end I to be honest I couldn't really run that much faster so conceeded.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a little harder throughout instead of just at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of stretching and I had a post race massage (which has left me with significant bruising on my hips owwww! I'm sure that's not supposed to happen with a 'normal' sports massage).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My mindset, my weight, people in the way, my breathing.

Event comments:

Some of the marshalling could have been better, I and a few others I talked too weren't sure of which way to go. Yet again is amused me that they enforce a strict 'no one allowed in transition until the race has ended' up until the point where they can't be bothered. Lots of competitors had taken bikes and were wheeling them across the course on their way home while we were still racing which was a bit of a pain to have to try and run round them.

WOOHOO Kate you're a triathlete! Well done! Sounds like a hectic rush to get there.  But you put in a GREAT performance for your first!  WOOHOO!

Remember - Why overtake when you can fist drill or swim over the top of people (that's what used to happen to me!!!  But now I can swim over the top too. )
