Swim
Comments: First ever OW swim went okay. I stayed relaxed which was a big concern for me. In my first tri back in April I panicked when I entered the water and it was a pool swim. A few minutes in I ran up the back of someone and had to stop to gather myself. Started back up and found myself on the other side of the course. Besides working on my swimming in general I will need to work on sighting. Got back on track and did about as well as I thought I would. I still have a lot of work to do with the swim, but I did conquer my fear of the water and now need to work on technique. The swim was twice as long as the swim from my first tri and it only took 4 minutes and 40+ seconds longer to complete. What would you do differently?: Work on sighting and work on technique. My goal is to complete a swim at a tri without stopping. Transition 1
Comments: For my second tri I paid a little more attention to this but was still more concerned about making sure I had everything instead of doing it quickly. Will work on timing of the transition area as I get more into tri's. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on it. Bike
Comments: The bike is my most comfortable event. I have a Trek hybrid which is adequate for now. I still need to focus more on the gears. If I continue with tri's, I will get a tri bike which should help my time. What would you do differently?: Focus more on the gears. Transition 2
Comments: As I was dismounting one of the volunteers yelled that I had to stop before "the line" which created a panic and a huge cram in my left calf. What would you do differently?: Not much. May get the laces that tie up quicker. Run
Comments: WOW! I think I could have walked faster than I ran. Was determined to not stop which I accomplished, but I am sure it looked at times like I was going backwards. This was the hardest run I have ever done. What would you do differently?: Train much much more and smarter. I need to work with someone to develop a better routine for my running. Post race
Warm down: Not much. Ate some fruit and loaded my bike and headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Event comments: I didn't train as hard as I did for my first tri back in April. Took some things for granted. I learned a lot at this race and coupled with what I learned at my first race I am anxious to train for and run my 3rd tri. Will look at something this fall. I really want to be able to swim the entire swim without stopping. Last updated: 2008-06-20 12:00 AM

Second ever tri and my first in open water. Pre-race began a week earlier when I swam in Alum Creek where the race was, which was my first open water swim ever. Made the actual swim less anxious. Other than that was fairly basic. Woke up at 5:00 am and ate an English muffin w/ peanut butter, a banana and a cup of coffee. Got to AC around 6:15 am and set up my transition area.
Nothing really. Not sure about this part of the race. Never been much of a "warm up" person.
