Total Time = 1h 30m 27s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 13/37
Pre-race routine:

Normal morning routine, drank 2 cups of coffee and had some cereal.
Event warmup:

100 Meter swim or so prior to swim start.
Swim
  • 20m 28s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Smoked the swim. Although this is only my second OWS, I think I have the hang of it. I paced myself early and got into a good rhythm. My right calf started to cramp at the end which limited my ability to kick.
What would you do differently?:

I would try and draft people more. I was at the front of the pack and really didn't have anyone to draft however. I really need to hydrate myself better to prevent cramping.
Transition 1
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

I need to work on getting into the pedals better.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I am going to go with the shoes already attached to the wheels to forgo the problems with the getting into the shoes and pedals.
Bike
  • 39m 45s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 20.63 mile/hr
Comments:

The roadway was really rough and I held everyone off until mile 12 when all of the higher speed individuals caught up with me. I started to bonk at that point.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on keeping a good pace and remember to drink. I think next time I will get the aero bottle to keep from having to reach down to grab the bottle.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Much better than last time. The Yankz laces helped with the transition time.
What would you do differently?:

I need to ride with my feet on top of the shoes coming in and hop off instead of stopping and then getting off.
Run
  • 27m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Wow, talk about bonking hard. I got to the run and just died. I really needed to pee and that didn't help things either.
What would you do differently?:

I really need to work on getting more stamina for the run at the end. I just get hammered by everybody at the end.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Dehydration.

Event comments:

The bike course was really rough and I was surprised I didn't get a flat. The swim course was much longer than advertised, but that worked to my advantage since it was my strongest event. Overall a good race and will attend again next year.

Great job! I sort of bonked on the run, too. It was pretty hot, with not much cover. I second the 1,000 meter estimation. I was a little worried that everyone said the water was gross, but it was fine, and a comfortable temp, too!

Thanks! I second that the water was about perfect and not gross at all in my opinion. In fact, the swim was actually enjoyable. I thought it was a pretty good race considering there were about 500 racers? The different waves made the swim much more enjoyable and spread out which helped out a lot.

Nice job out there!  I need to get one of those aero-bottles as well...it's on my wish list.  I agree that the water temp was about perfect and not "too gross".  I think the reason there were the comments about the water quality is that you can count on every summer the swim beach at CC Rez will be closed due to high ecoli levels.  hasn't happened this year (that I know of) but it does happen.  I'll probably do the race again next year too.
