Comments: My breathing and sighting were off. Mid-swim, a kayaker told me to get back on the course, so I made a hard left for about 25 yards. I literally forgot to sight as I was swimming. I'd swim, break into breaststroke, look around, and swim some more. It wasn't until the last 200 yards or so that I started coordinating everything correctly, and started looking up every 17 strokes or so, as I usually do. I'm not sure how or why I screwed this up. But there was a clear 'A-ha' moment when I finally got it right. What would you do differently?: Get my act together and start sighting correctly.  Post race

Had some pre-race drink stuff and coffee as I drove to the race.
Quick swim in the bay. Decided it was warm enough go to without a wetsuit, making this the first OWS I've ever done without one.
