Sorry, I hit the enter button.

So I'm about 10 days away from Xterra Maine and decide to get one more cranking day out before I start a minor taper. After my last week or so of trainig, I should have taken today off.
That said, I start out to do about 30 miles of a hard ride with lot's O hills, but it turns into a 44 mile ordeal.
Things were going ok and I was averaging about 19.5 through a very hilly course (total 2300 ft) so I decided to tack on a few more miles. As I start to get tired I blow by my turn (New course) and cruise down a long hill. It was about 2-3 miles out of my way. Long story short, by the time I got within 4 miles of my finish, I was just wiped. I mean, I did not want to go 10 more feet never mind 4 miles.

To add to the story, I only had one water bottle and no gels or bars to keep me going. Oh, and I forgot to bring money. I slipped out of work, so I just grabbed what I had.

I think it was the closes I ever came to bonking although I don't think it was a true bonk.

Now that it's over, I'm glad I did it, but during the ride, it sucked!

Have had a bonk on a run - it was just really TOO hot to be out there and idiot that I am, I went out anyway.  Made it about halfway through the run and just had near nothing left to get home.  I walked home and I don't think I've ever walked that slow in my life.

yep

and to make matters worse, i flatted and had a co2 dispenser, but no co2. i was already mentally gone at that point, but that just put me over the edge.

i had to wait for my riding partner to ride the remaining 5 miles home, get the car to come back and get me. oh and it started to rain while i waited......alone.

Who me, bonk?  Oh no, never.  Every run I've ever done has been perfect.

I couldn't have squirmed more on my seat and my shoulders were touching my ears.

The funny thing is, 6 hours later my legs are tired but I feel great. Go figure, once you refuel your body, it works again.

I don't ride far enough to bonk...I have bonked on a run...to me there are two different kinds of bonking...

Mental...where you just don't want to move.  You can phisically do the work, but your mind is just not there...not in the game so to speak...and you just stop...

Physical...which is what I think you were experiencing.  where your nutrition just wasn't where it should be...and your body just says...STOP...

I have had both happen to me.

once...hopefully never again....my first time doing a 140 mile ride as a fund raiser. I was new to cycling and had done a lot of 90 min. rides but never more than 30miles. Well after 70 miles, if there was the slightest of inclines, my legs would vapor lock. I didn't have the strength to lift my leg over the tube at the rest stops....Someone ask me what I was eating, and I replied, "eating?" LOL....I had water and gatorade. Nothing else. Well, after a peanut butter and honey sandwich, some orange wedges, and salt tabs, my legs worked again. Needless to say I finished the ride. When I got to the house, I went into exhaustion rigors....I literally could not control my arms or legs. I thought I was going to pass out.....NEVER again....ugh

Most of the way through about a 4 hour bike ride I come to a stop light on the way home.  I had spent the last few miles wishing I could just stop but I had to finish the ride to get home.  Standing at the red light I start to get lightheaded and the world started to get all wavy.  I realized if I try to get off the bike I will fall over into traffic.  The light changed, and I got on the bike meaning to get to the nearest parking lot and sit down.  Well once on the bike I felt better and decide to finish the 2 miles home. I got home and I barely managed to get my shoes off before I started to get really dizzy.  My husband grabed me, sat me down and brought me some bread to get simple sugars into my system fast.  I managed to down some food and take a shower to get the road grime off.  I then laid down and proceeded to sleep the sleep of the dead for the next 2 hours until my husband woke me up to feed me again.  That is something I would prefer not to do again though I must admit the world looks really nice when it’s all wavy and bright like that.

Once during one of my first really long runs (first ever 15-miler) it was hotter then normal for that time of year. I drank 2 full bottles of water only (didn't bring electrolyte drinks) by the 9 mile mark. I started getting really light-headed and then things got bad. I was a mile from the house where I could refuel and get going again. So, I pushed on. I was with my hubbie and dad. I don't remember much, but I remember my husband saying "look, there's Joy and Don" (2 of our biking buddies). I asked where. Apparently there were 20+ bikers zooming past us, I couldn't even see them. I then realized I couldn't see anything, just a haze of green from the trees around us. I had to run between my dad and husband to stay on course since I had pretty much gone blind. It was horrible and I do not recommend to anyone letting your reserves get this low!

On a long training ride early this summer I bonked.  At mile 75 we turned towards home.  Got 5 miles down the rode 6miles from home and mind and bike started to wander.  We had bunch of water and gels.  I was just spent.  We stopped next to a  grave yard and decided that was the place to call the wife to come get me.  I told my buddy I told her to bring a shovel I saved the cost of getting a hearse.  90 degrees and 90% humidity with headwind on the return.

It was probably the hot dog stand that wasn't open yet that screwed up my nutrition plan.

I bonked in the pool earlier this summer. The night before I had done a very difficult track workout with lots of fast intervals. About twelve hours later I was in the pool for my weekly group swim workout. Coach started us out with 10x50 sprint at very hard effort, followed by 4x250. I pushed hard on the short sprints and then completely bonked on the second 250. I literally could not swim anymore. My legs and feet were cramping, my tank was below "E" and I just dragged myself out of the pool. Coach took one look at me and told me to hit the shower and go eat something. Sometimes it just ain't happening!
