Pre-race routine:

Music, alone time...
Event warmup:

Stretch. About 50 yard swim b4 start
Swim
  • 25m 41s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

BAD SWIM. Worst part of the the race. My zipper broke and my wetsuit filled with water about 100 yards in. So I was wearing one big drag suit the entire swim. Included in the swim time is the long run to transition in which I couldn't unzip the wetsuit b/c it was broke. I wound up tearing a hole in it and had to stop for about 30 seconds to figure out what was going on. So this 25:41 should probably be in the 23's
What would you do differently?:

New tri wetsuit
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 1h 14m 33s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Went super hard. I actually had my split 3 minutes less that what they gave me...odd. Did well, raced hard. Had a mini-bonk for about 1 mile at around mile 22 but then my legs came back to me. Hauled ass coming back when I saw I had a pack of 15 guys (yes I counted at the turn-around) just behind me. Only one of them caught me. I caught about three that were well ahead of me at the turnaround.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more. More caffeine for shorter stuff.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 49m 57s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run for me. Hadn't run over 2 miles since June 8 due to injury so it was good to get out there and actually run. My fastest 10k to date. I can't wait until I have a string of months where I don't get injured. I know I am a fast runner but it is my weakest out of the three discliplines right now. Hope to drop into the 6's for next seasons 10k's.
But ya look at my rankings...weak. Super weak. I don't race for my health, I train my for health...I race to win. I hate being passed, I hate being MOP. This will change very very soon.
What would you do differently?:

Run consistently. I have probably 2 months total in my life of good run training.
Post race
Warm down:

Post race massage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wetsuit, lack of training due to injury, not enough hydration on bike.

Event comments:

Nice run course. Swim and bike not so much. I hate calm protected swims. Get out in the ocean with big surf so we can really see which triathletes are good swimmers. The race takes the weak way out with choosing not to race in the ocean but in the protected little bay. Bike was super lame but did like the challenge of the constant up-down.
Overall I think this was my least favorite of the races I have done. It is local and a cheap entry fee so you can't really go wrong but I'd rather save my race energy for a different course and venue.
Oh ya and do not ever buy a QROO with a break-away zipper system. Total joke.
