Overcast
Total Time = 1h 24m 41s
Overall Rank = 187/772
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 36/77
Pre-race routine:

Rushed the whole way to the event; arrived 2 minutes after posted Transition Close Time. Made it anyway!
Event warmup:

Biking to Transition with all my gear! HR was definitely up for about 40 minutes.
Swim
  • 10m 15s
  • 766 yards
  • 01m 20s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

REALLY take it easy on first 100-200 meters to avoid spazing out.
Transition 1
  • 04m 1s
Comments:

???Not sure why, but almost everyone has a "4:01" T1 time. I wonder if there was a sensor malfunction??? Probably more in the 2:30 minute range
What would you do differently?:

MUST "check out" the exit of T1 to determine if I should keep shoes clipped in or put them on in Transition. This one, for example as a very short distance from the rack to the mount line. I should have had the shoes off the pedals ready to put on and run in.
Bike
  • 38m 35s
  • 13.05 miles
  • 20.29 mile/hr
Comments:

I may have drank too much for fear of cramping at end of bike/start of run.
What would you do differently?:

Probably take more GU and/or Electrolytes as compared to fluids he keep hydrated AND take in nutrients.
Transition 2
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

Spent too much time going into bag to find clothes pin to pin end of my race number to my race belt.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure Equipement (Race Number Belt) is working correctly to avoid having to jerry-rig things in Transition
Run
  • 29m 30s
  • 3.98 miles
  • 07m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

My left hiney and hammy started cramping about 100-200 meters out. I had to stop, pull off to the right, and stretch it out!!!!! Damn.
What would you do differently?:

Train Better! I almost always cramp up after the bike and beginning the run.
I still haven't figured out the proper pacing schedule for the Run. I had too much left in the tank after I was done. I, realistically, could have finished 30-60 seconds faster just on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

None. 2 Recovery drinks given out from event staff. No bananas, cheered a lot of finishers on then went to eat at post-race event.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Race Number belt malfunction (40seconds)
Dropped swim cap and goggles, had to turn back to pick them up (15seconds)
Cramped up to start the run, had to stop and stretch (30seconds)
Went out too hard on swim and had to backstroke (20seconds)

Event comments:

With all the rushing around and equipment issues I felt like this was a good effort "overall". Definitely learned quite a few additional lessons from this one to add to the experience bin. Hopefully with training, I can overcome the run start cramping issue. Doing warm-up Olympic on 8/10 and hope to work out the kinks so the 8/24 Olympic is done efficiently.

Overdid it in 1st 150 meters, had to roll over and backstroke for 10-15 seconds. Got my wind back and cruised at a great pace for the remainder. This was my best 800m swim even as compared to pool training.

Ummm, yes it was Fun.  I didn't mention that?  Hmm, I have to remember that this is half the reason I'm doing these events.  Thanks for the reminder!  Retrospectively, I had a great time doing it.  It really sounds like the rest of the BTers also had a great time doing this race.
