Subject: RE: Events in Western PA?Ford City is Sept 13. Here's the link: http://www.local4all.com/view_event.php?events_id=509
I've never done this race so I can't offer any input, but if my calendar doesn't get jammed up with family activities, I'll be there.
In May, there's a sprint in Slippery Rock, and in June, a sprint in Moraine State Park, which I think is in Butler County off I-79. Right around that same time is an olympic in Edinboro, which is about 35 minutes south of Erie off I-79. Erie is next weekend.
You should try to do a race, just for the experience of doing it. My 64-year old mom took my advice this summer and has become addicted. Erie will be her 3rd race. And she's already talking about registering for 2 bigger events next summer.
Whatever you do, do not spend a lot of money on equipment, clothing, etc until you've done it and liked it. You'll see a lot of mountain bikes and old 10-speeds at these venues, racked right next to the exotic and incredibly expensive carbon ones. A triathlon is a test for yourself, to see what you're made of, and it doesn't require much more than the will to do it.
Okay, enough philosophizing. See you at Ford City. Edited by prof40 2008-08-31 5:05 AM
