Interesting... I wonder if any of the IM vets can chime in on if this is new, different races have different rules?, etc. That just seems like a strange rule, makes me wonder if people had gone overboard with SN bags to the point where something had to change.

My next will be IM Cozumel, which will probably have different rules altogether (not a NAS event). And yes, I'd probably be a bit of a rule-follower myself if I was doing this race and that was what was stated in the guide.

My interpretation of this rule is:  we are throwing everything away as soon as the SN area closes.

At IMWI, they bring the bags back after the race so that people can look through them the next morning and, if they find their bag, take whatever they want from it.

If you are fine with disposing of whatever you don't take with you, put whatever you want in the bag.  I don't think they'll go through the bags and penalize people for putting an extra tube/air in the bag.

Maybe people were putting in a lot of extra junk that they really didn't need so they change the name to "special foods" bags to kinda 'suggest' that the bags were for food not etra cologne, toothpaste, deorderant, change of underwear, toilet paper, a Shick Quad blade, loose leaf paper, post-it notes, good luck charms, spare chains, digital camera, tire iron, metal coat hangers and the like.

Just amusing myself wondering what drove them to make such a rule.

I mean, if the explaination above were really the case, why not just say "the special food bags will not be returned after the race so if you want it back, get it back on the course or kiss it goodbye"?

How many people have I heard that pee on the bike?  I figured a change of underwear and toilet paper was just the next logical progression.

And what if I need to touch up my legs on the ride?  I NEED that quad blade razor.
