Event warmup:

Jogged, stretched, did pickups on the uphills between TZ and Powhaten.
Swim
  • 34m 49s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Choppy water w/ fog so couldn't sight. Just followed people mostly.
Transition 1
  • 03m 40s
Comments:

Ran in wetsuit to my bike because it was cold out -- not a problem. Put on beanie, glasses, helmet, polarfleece jacket (thank god), rolled on leg warmers (thank god), sox, sandwich bags on toes (thank god), shoes, full-fingered gloves. Fingers somehow did not get cold! I was comfortable on the bike :)
What would you do differently?:

Not race in rain when it's 50*.

Comments:

Was passed by 1 woman, Liz, but she's way younger than me. I passed lots of women, which means most of them beat me on the swim. Bike felt strong til about the halfway mark when my calf cramped. Started chugging my electrolytes and it went away. Was very bummed when they told us the race was canceled due to lightning. Looks like I was almost at the turnaround when I got the news. Didn't go as hard the last 10 miles so avg. speed would have been higher for the race. I was not cold which was my biggest concern.
What would you do differently?:

I may have been pushing too hard on the bike -- don't know how the run would have gone. Otherwise I felt good.

Warm down:

Tried to help Kristine get warm -- she couldn't stop shaking. Then I was getting cold so ran to the car and got out of some of my wet clothes. Ran over to say goodbye to Jana. Went down to get my shirt, then started getting cold so we left. Nice cooldown ;)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Calf cramp -- need to drink electrolytes starting a few days before the race. Didn't bother this time because it wasn't going to be hot.

Event comments:

So I was 14th of a possible 32 in my AG after the swim, which is by far my weakest leg. I passed at least half a dozen on the ride -- couldn't see #s on some people who were dressed warm (like me). I think I could have passed at least as many on the rest of the ride, and maybe some more on the run. That means I could possibly have podiumed this race. Oh well, next time!!
