Hi all,

I never managed to check in after my weigh in last week. I did everything right, wrote it all down, continued to exercise and even ended the week with points to spare and all in all I put on 1/2 lb! So the analysis would show a number of potential reasons:
- A change of lifestyle - my body has gone into shock about my new getting up really early, traveling and then getting back fairly late. I was more active than I have been in the past few weeks during the day but a little less training than before, perhaps my body thinks that I'm doing too much and is hanging on to the weight!
- A change of time to be weighed. I've been weighing in at a class on Thursday lunchtime and this was Thursday evening
- Takeaway food - despite having enough points I ate a chineses takeaway the night before and normally these things are packed with salt so I might be retaining water to try to cope with the salt overdose.

I'm favouring the takeaway idea 'cause this has happened before but the other two can't have helped. I'm trying to stay philosophical about the whole issue as I know I stuck to everything but I can't help feeling dissapointed that I didn't loose and worried that I've hit a plateau and wont be able to loose any more. Irrational I know.

I'm away on business this week so it's going to be hard to stick to it but I'm determined to get there.

Hey guys and gals. I had a great WW week. I lost 1.2 pounds PLUS WHAT I GAINED LAST WEEK! WOOHOO ME!

I will say this though. I.AM.TIRED! All this riding and running and swimming and working and housework and everything is wearing me flat out! I caught myself fighting back tears this morning and snapping at DH when he said I should start working in more strength training. I'm wondering just how long I can keep it up!

Kate - sounds like you have a good handle on what may have contributed to the slight gain - I know it's easy for me to say - but try not to worry about it too much.  You are doing the right things and it will pay off!

Terri - just take it one day at a time and listen to your body, you can do it! and congrats on the loss!

Cassi

what kind of a scale did you end up buying?

I bought a Tanita "See Your Body Better" scale - and yes, that is the real name (here's a link)! I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond for about $50. So far I am a fan. It's been really consistent even when I move it around the house. For fun I weighed myself on the Tanita scale and then on my old Homedics and I was three pounds heavier on the Homedics scale. Go figure.

Speaking of which, I gained .2 this week. I'm not too shocked because 1) I went out of town to see a friend and we did what friends do... eat and have fun, and 2) I ate a lot of salt - we had Vietnamese food on Friday night and Chinese on Saturday. In fact, I feel pretty confident that I probably lost, but am retaining water weight. So Kate, I feel your pain!

We did, however, go for a run Saturday morning so it wasn't a total wash. I can definitely feel good about that.

I am also happy that a lot of my clothes are fitting much better/looser, and I feel like the circumference of my arms has decreased significantly. I have biceps now, which is fantastic!

Hello All: Hope everyone had a good weekend.  I got on the scale this morning knowing I gained weight (Terrible week last week - I ate out at lunch everyday) and yep 3lbs heavier.  OK - whose job is it to chew my butt...you aren't doing your job.  This week has started off better - I ate the lunch I packed and was able to get a 30 minute mountain bike ride in at lunch.  I am also already tracking my points ( I somehow forgot/neglected to do this last week).

 Have a great week everyone.

Cassi - thanks for the info on the scale!  I noticed it measures body water, how does that work?

Ugh, my scale is not being very nice either, but that's because I ate like a trucker all weekend.  I had some great workouts though!  I also haven't been getting all my sleep because I've been staying up to watch Olympic swimming each night.  I was actually happy on Thursday night when our power went out for 6 hours because I had to go to bed.  Go USA!

Laurie, I hear you about the sleep! I love the summer olympics, and am much more into it this year (I'm currenty watching the men's triathlon while typing this response!!!) so I'm getting to bed much later than norm and it's keeping me from getting up when I should in the a.m.

Cassi - thanks for the info on the scale! I noticed it measures body water, how does that work?

The explanation given is very vague and technical. Tanita claims to use "bioelectrical impedance analysis" to measure hydration, which is basically a weak electrical signal sent through the body via the feet. I don't know how accurate it is, but yesterday when I weighed myself I was feeling dehydrated (headache, fat fingers, etc), and it told me I was dehydrated. Not sure if that was a coincidence though. Seems too good to be true for $50! (I can't help being skeptical after my experience with Homedics!)

For kicks I decided to weigh myself again this morning to see if I was still retaining water and found that I had lost a pound! I'm going to wait until Monday to make it official, but if that is accurate I have lost a total of 5lbs! Yay!

We have 2 Tanitas and find them both to be very accurate. In fact, mine even weighs me the same as the WW scale! DH is very on top of his body fat % and tracks it daily and he has seen major differences on a daily basis before and after races, after he's eaten poorly, dehydrated, etc. The one that I have was the first one we purchased, I think, 5 years ago and it works as great as the first day we got it, too.

Well, I turned the TV off at 9 last night and crashed. This morning I hate that I missed whatever was being shown on the Olympics, but I was just too tired at that moment to care.

AP question. Before I used to do my activities in the a.m. before work so I knew throughout the day what type of AP I had to *eat.* Now, I'm doing my training in the evenings (except on the weekends) so I don't know what APs I'll have until it's time for me to stop eating for the day (I try to NOT eat after 7p.m.). I'm afraid to eat them before I actually earn them in case something comes up. Anyone else deal with this dilemma?

I can't say that I do, but that's only because I don't set a stop time for eating.  It doesn't work out logistically for me.  Your body doesn't know what time of day it is when you eat the calories...I'll just say that if you do eat in the evening, make it a lighter snack, something with protein...

Great news on my end. I just got back from vacation yesterday so I weighed myself this morning.. only lost .2 lbs.. but I ate just about everything I wanted on vacation With of course a promise to myself to get back on track when I got back.

The reason I didn't gain was

1) Did a tri while on vacation and had my FIRST EVER AGE GROUP WIN!!! Came in 4th overall. Woo hoo!

2) Day 3 of vacation, road 24 miles

3) Day 4 swam across the lake we were staying on

4) Day 5 rest day... ah

5) Day 6 Ran 9.5 miles...

My whole fam is VERY active, so all of my points above happened with another family member. My bro finished 2nd in his AG by the way - his first time placing.

I gained the .6 i lost last week.  I am so relieved that I have an end date for my job...way less stress.  That and the fact that I won't have the ability to just walk down the hall to buy a pretzel with cheese...
