Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30AM. One the plus side, I got to eat a little breakfast of 2 Eggo waffles before driving for an hour+ to Vermilion. Light stretching before leaving.

Comments:

Nice run...took it easy with the thought of this being the beginning of a 3 hour event.

  • 24.8 miles
  • 16.56 mile/hr
Transition 2

Run
  • 1h 01m 40s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good starting the run. Stopped in a port-o-john almost immediately on leaving the transition for the run. Was determined to run the entire 10K, slow and steady, but that was not to be the case. Made it almost to the 4 mile mark before I had to stop and walk and start my run/walk routine. Upon reviewing my HR info from my Garmin Forerunner, my HR gradually increased to nearly my Max HR by the time I had to stop running and start my run/walk routine.
What would you do differently?:

Will be trying Hammers's Liquid Endurance for my next race. Try to drink more.

Event comments:

This was a first time event for HFP racing in Vermilion. Very good and lots of volunteers! First time I used my Forerunner 305 for this type of event; much better than my Polar 625. My transition times were much improved because the Forerunner 305 is much better suited for multi-sport activities.
