Event warmup:

4 laps in pool
Swim
  • 06m 50s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

I don't do flip turns and never train fast, always long and slow, so this is pretty fast for me. But, man, the other woman in my lane was speedy! Got done around 5 min. After the race someone said she had once qualified for the Olympics!
What would you do differently?:

Train for short, fast swims? Nah. I simply hate swimming intervals and sprints. So: nothing. I'm stubborn with this one. :)
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

Fast since I skipped the socks and didn't have a wetsuit to remove.
Bike
  • 33m
  • 10 miles
  • 18.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Stayed in the big ring for most of the ride. I don't like racing on the MTB. It feels so slow and the bumps hurt my butt.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Run
  • 19m 40s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

As usual, I got caught on the run. I was second of all women after the swim and bike. Dropped to fourth on the run.

The sprinklers were on in one area at the lakes. Great. I even walked through them to cool down... Then I learned after the race that it was "reclaimed wastewater" so I'm glad I took a shower right away!
What would you do differently?:

Not wear the orthodics in the trail running shoes. I have two quarter-size blisters under my arches.
Post race
Warm down:

Jumped back into the pool to cool down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Event comments:

Very small tri at my gym. I'm guessing on the number of contestants (60). They will post the results sometime later this week. No AGs, just overall male and female. The three women who beat me were 23, 35, and 37. I had to go ask them, couldn't resist. No other old farts like me racing, as far as I could tell. Lots of fun! Lots of first-timers, lots of kids running around. The splits for T1 and T2 are estimates since they took the time manually after each leg.

This race is perfect for beginners! I can highly recommend it. What a fun way to spend a Sunday morning.
