Comments:

Slightly better than last year ranking-wise, but no where near the level of improvement compared to the bike and run. Swim needs a lot of focus this winter.
Transition 1
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

Had a crappy transition spot, almost all the way on the other end from the bike out. Was a long run with the bike, but not a horrible transition overall.
Bike
  • 33m 44s
  • 11.75 miles
  • 20.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride overall. Heart rate was really high coming off the swim again, but settled down on the back half of the ride. Was fun being able to push it with such a short distance. Was 7 mph faster this year, I'm sure it's all the bike.

Run
  • 22m 15s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Pleasantly surprised with the 7:25 pace. Had no idea what it was, didn't take a watch or the Garmin with me on the run. Just went out and gave it all I had. Improved my pace more than 3 min/mile from last year.

Event comments:

Good race overall, KLM seems to be doing better as time goes on.

A table comparing last year to this year. I'm sure the key to the improvement was due mostly to the continued weight loss. I'd lost about 20lbs or so by the time I did Jackson County last year, but I'm glad to say that was just the start.

Not discounting the training and nutrition, they were what lead to the weight loss of course. Curious to see what the numbers look like next year, hope the improvement curve isn't totally flattened. Might have squeezed out a little better bike/run if I'd tapered much at all, but treated this as a "C" race since I'm gearing up for Redman next month. I guess I did back off on my run the day before, did 10 miles on the treadmill since it was raining out, would have done a few more normally.

On to Redman next month!

This is really great stuff. I have run two short course races so far this year and I have two more left to go. I hope to do the same races next year in hopes of comparing results as you have. I would love to have similar results. This is one of the great things about this website is the range of people and the different stages that everyone is on their journey. Keep up the good work and keep sharing the results.

Just saw this comp from last year to this year's times.  Awesome!  Your improvement is a great encouragement to me snce I'm right where you were last year.  My times and weight for my first tri look alot like what you did last year.  I can loose as much as you did and still be a Clyde, (I'm 6' 265) but the weight loss and effect on times really has set the bar in my own mind for training goals this year.

Thanks for sharing!
