No water crossings that I know of. I do know the first couple of miles are on MTB tracks. It gets steep in some areas, and sometimes requires a branch or two to grab onto. Then it planes out to mostly flat fields with short cut grass. It also involves some spots with paths of crushed shell. That's not too bad, and could probably get by in plain shoes. If it were real rocky, you might consider trail shoes. But it sounds like cross country course stuff.
