Overall Rank = 17/383
Age Group = w35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/59
Pre-race routine:

Drove down to Renee's on Sat. w/ Anna. Had a great dinner, went to Inside Out & got a pretty new pink helmet!
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 14m 38s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a decent swim, couldn't get any feet to draft. There were three of us from my a.g. that swam together the whole time but the one that was closest to me kept doing a breaststroke kick to sight so I couldn't get on her feet & the other lady was just all over the place. We pretty quickly caught the wave before us & that got a little messy but overall a good swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, it was overall a decent swim. A little slow time-wise for me, but b/t the IM two weeks prior & the stomach flu the week after that it was a pretty good effort.
Transition 1
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

I had to run through sand which got in my cleats so I lost about :30 sec. just trying to get clipped in.
What would you do differently?:

Run around the sand volleyball pit!
Bike
  • 53m 13s
  • 17 miles
  • 19.17 mile/hr
Comments:

It was nice to be in the lead of the bike pack! Only 1 or so in my a.g. ahead of me and didn't get passed by more than a few women overall. Felt great for first half but on the second half I could really feel the burn in my legs. Overall it was a great bike, a little slower than I think I could have done w/o the IM, but I really had fun.
What would you do differently?:

Again, nothing. That was all I had for the day & it still felt like a good bike overall. I def. have some room for improvement next year!
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Pretty good transition, got stuck behind someone a little slower than me running in but the chute was too narrow to pass.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 27m 9s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

The IM caught me here and spanked me. I just ran out of juice. Ran as hard as I could but lost time every mile. Again, great run for where I was that day but I def. think I have a solid 3 min. to take off next year.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing for this year, but next year I'm going to make that run my b*&ch!
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water & then went out to cheer Renee on !

What limited your ability to perform faster:

an IM two weeks prior & the stomach flu in between!

Event comments:

I really enjoyed the race PLUS we got jewlery for finishing!! It was definitly mostly beginners out there, but a few fast folks that gave me a run for my money!

Kati,

Good for you getting out there so soon after your IM! That takes guts! I'd have spent the next month on the couch. It sounds like you had a good time. Training for long course and shorter races is night and day. Well done.
