Total Time = 1h 16m 15s
Overall Rank = 26/29
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 4/5
Pre-race routine:

Grabbed a bagel with peanut butter, an orange juice and drove to the complex
Swim
  • 08m 54s
  • 200 meters
  • 04m 27s / 100 meters
Comments:

Dove into the pool > off flew my goggles and out popped a contact. Tried to recover and swim without getting water in my eyes - ridiculous. Finally rolled over and put on goggles while kicking on my back. Then resumed swim only to have confused guy swim into me. Recovered and swam remaining lengths.

Times are all off as the transition time is included in the swim time. I was poky in the transition trying to get as dry as possible.
What would you do differently?:

Don't dive in with goggles on!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition time is included in the swim time. Probably took about 5 minutes towel drying off and getting dressed. Transition area was outside and it was really cold after swim.
What would you do differently?:

Stop chatting with daughter and get ready faster.
Bike
  • 34m 38s
  • 7.46 miles
  • 12.92 mile/hr
Comments:

I've always known my bike limits my performance. I was the only one riding a non-racing bike and people were flying past me despite the fact that given the wind, I was only going slightly slower than normal. The average person was going 5-7km faster than me.

The ride was really cold when windy. Wet tri shorts = numb bum & thighs
What would you do differently?:

I think it's time to invest in a proper bike or get comfy coming in last.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition time included in bike time. I thought I was pretty fast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 32m 45s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt slow at first but then got a good pace going. For the most part of the run I was alone in the woods. Beautiful.
What would you do differently?:

People were wearing iPods! Consider wearing one myself!! Otherwise nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Goofing off... chatting with other participants.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I regret diving into the pool... saw others and thought I'd do it too. It was annoying completing the race with one eye blurry. But overall I think I did well considering my lack of consistent pre-race training. I'm getting addicted and really want to invest in a good bike. I think it will make a difference.

Event comments:

Road construction wasn't cool but the run was beautiful. Cool weather tested your performance a bit. Good race for a beginner in my opinion
