Any changes in strategy/prep you'd take for this type of weather over a warm clear day?  I'm thinking of attaching arm warmers to the bike, having my transition items in plastic bags, and wearing two shirts (compression and regular).  I'm hoping race day nerves and exertion may prove to be more of a force than the chilly weather to me (live in NJ now, but I'm Cali  born and Georgia raised..so thin blooded).  Oh, and I will be wearing a wetsuit as well.

Last year I asked a very similar question. Turned out to be 33 degrees at race start. I could see my breath. I wore shorty john wetsuit over tri shorts and sports bra in the water, threw on a dry short-sleeved running shirt and light bike jacket in T1, and by the time T2 hit, I peeled off the jacket. I think it topped out at 47 that day.

In other words - you'll be fine.

One thing I didn't do last year, but did do this year and I'm so glad I did, was put on some wool bike socks in T1. It's much nicer when you can actually feel your feet on the run.

The worst part is going to be waiting at teh start. Once you get going, you won't have any trouble. You'll probably shed clothes along the way. Just remember where you throw things, or wear clothes you can afford to leave behind. The bike could be bigger issues because of the wind chill factor. Having warmers on the bike might be a good idea.

For 47, I'd want some gloves on for the last two legs and probably a long sleeve shirt for the bike ride.

For a sprint not too much of an issue.  For my last HIM I did wear wool socks and toe warmers on the bike.  For a sprint just the toe warmers would probably be enough.  Maybe are warmers for the bike.  Good idea to keep stuff dry in TA.

I am just the opposite...give me 97F....Being cold just plain sucks. I have gotten used to running/riding in the afternoons when temps here in the Summer avg low 90's. With heat index frequently 100F + Much better than not feeling toes b/c of cold...

I did a sprint this past Sunday and it was in the mid 50s.  I just decided to suck it up in my tri shorts and tank.   I would have liked to have been warmer, but by no means was I shivering (well, after a few miles on the bike) and I can't say it affected my time.  I saw many people who put on a jacket or something on the bike.  I chose not to and don't regret my decision.    That said, it was sunny and it warmed up to 80 a few hours after the race was over.

One thing I will say... it took a few miles for me to be able to see out of my sunglasses on the bike.   They got all dewey in transition while I was swimming.   I couldn't wear them for a while.  Had to have them on my head, kept them in my mouth, put them low on my nose so I could watch them and see when they were clear.   But if you're expecting rain maybe you won't be wearing sunglasses anyway.

Lesson 1:  wear socks.  I rode for one hour tonight sockless in 60 degree weather, clear and beautiful, and when I got done my toes were numb.  Nothing else was too chilly, but I was wearing a trisuit and cycling jersey (long-sleeve).  While my race is a sprint, the bike portion is 19.5 miles, so that is why I am somewhat concerned about heat loss.  I'm with those who would prefer it to be 97.  I was raised in Quartz Hill, California, Dublin, Texas, and Marietta, Georgia.  Give me heat anytime.
