.....Sharkie.....found someone that's probably done without as long (if not longer than you).....and he'd probably say some interesting things during the act as well.

My uncle read the entire World Book Encyclopedia.  He suggested that I should do the same.  More interesting than a dictionary, but I still took a pass.

And, he hates pizza.

I read the entire World Book Encyclopedia in the summer of 1977. I was 11 and had not discovered pizza yet

Yup.. been there done that..  I was around 11 too..  I was actually disappointed..  We had World Book Encycolopedia at home and Encycolopedia Brittanica at School..  Brittanica was FAR superior in my 11ish year-old head..

I've also read the entire bible 3 or 4 times..

Yep, the Brittanica is superior, especially the 11th edition. That is the standard by which encyclopædias are judged. I usually got tired of the Bible by the end of Genesis. The KJV language still wears me out.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who did that.

Then don't read the KJV Lots of other bible translations in more "plain" English. And then there's "The Message"...a travesty of the English language. And start with The Gospels instead. I attempted once to read the bible straight through. I think I got as far s as Numbers and wanted to stab myself in the eye. Skipping around a little bit is a bit better. (I read the entire NT first, though)

I used to love to read the Encyclopedia when I was a kid. Then I realized how dorky that was.

I actually am familiar with several of the other translations, I am most comfortable with the RSV. But when I was 11 and growing up where I grew up, there was only the KJV, and I had the rest of the World Book to read.

Personally, I try not to eat pizza while reading the Bible. Or the encyclopedia for that matter. The wife gets mad when I get sauce on the pages. Also she tells me not to talk.
