Subject: Dallas tri clubs
I just moved back to the Dallas area a couple of weeks ago after spending a couple years in West Texas.  Since moving back, I feel somewhat lost when it comes to finding places to ride or swim b/c I never did any of this when I lived in Dallas in the past.  I was thinking about joing a masters swim team or a triathlon club as a good way to get my training going again and hopefully meet some people interested in the sport.  Any advice on some good groups to check out?  I did a little search online and found some stuff, but I was hoping some of you had personal experience and could give me some insight.  Any info would be well appreciated.  By the way, I live in Uptown and was trying to keep from having to drive too far into the "burbs".

Welcome back. Be sure to change your location to Dallas instead of Amarillo. Everyone seems to make at least a few laps on the bike around Whiterock Lake. You can access the lake via a short commute on the bike from where you are. I ride from Oak Cliff for a few laps around the lake occasionally. As for swimming, the YMCA located downtown has adequate lap swim times available to accomodate most shcedules. Hope this helps, and welcome back. Don't forget to find your way to the Katy trail for some great runs.

Where exactly do you live, that would make a difference.

Hello Squatch79 --

I too myself live in uptown. I would second much of what everyone says. I live on the Katy Trail, which is now lighted from 5am to sunrise and sunset to 11pm. Its great to run on. Also White Rock Lake is perfect for a 30 - 40 mile bike ride too. Anything over that and I tend to get out on the country roads. As for swimming I belong to the YMCA. If you join the downtown one you can also go to every other one in DFW. Its 67 per month. You also can get free spin classes at the Y. You could also join Dallas Aquatic Masters, they do master swims. Do a google search and check it out. If you are ever interested in riding, shoot me a Private Message.

thanks for all of the advice.....it is all good stuff.  i live right off of katy trail between blackburn and lemmon and have been utilizing the trail quite a bit.  i went and rode at white rock on friday and enjoyed it out there.  i was pretty spoiled living in the middle of west texas and having the ability to ride for miles on empty, straight, flat roads.  white rock definitely has more to look at though.

bskyllin......i'm definitely interested in getting some rides in together.  i will send you a message sometime.  you can get in touch with me at [email protected].
