Pre-race routine:

Arrived good and early as always. Walked the course and knew it wasn't going to be my day. It had rained for 3-4 days and the course was an absolute mud pit. Totally thick, wet and sticky mud. Got back to the car, went to registration and got my number. Rode a couple laps to get some idea of layout and lines, then down to the start
Event warmup:

Riding a couple laps to get acclimated to the muddy conditions.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 7.46 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

The mud was unreal. It was so thick and heavy. Bike handling was really difficult and I don't have great technical skills nayway. It simply isn't my style of race.
What would you do differently?:

Get better tires: My clinchers are worn and too thin for muddy courses.
Stick to my strengths: Stay with "grass crit" style courses
Post race
Warm down:

The middle school was selling burritos, so I had a nice lunch watching the womens / juniors race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mud. Bad tires. Poor technical skills

Course: The course is really rustic and not my style. Start is down on the lower road, through a small field where the barriers are, then loops down into a wooded section with a run-up. Back around the shop (you could literally touch the bike / ski shop), through a BMX track, then back to the woods for a gnarly drop-down. Then a long slog through a cornfield, back the starting road and up a HUGE run-up to the finish.

It was fun right?

I'm yet to figure out what cross type course is to my advantage.

Are you racing this weekend? Ever do Beer Cross?

Fun: Yeah, it's a strange frame of mind that getting up at 4:00, driving 2 1/2 hours, racing for 40 minutes and then driving home is "fun". But, it really is... Mud brings out the kid in you.

Not sure about Saturday. That's a small-ish race, but close for me. Maybe...
