Total Time = 1h 58m
Overall Rank = 250/318
Age Group = Clydesdale Mstr
Age Group Rank = 13/18
Pre-race routine:

A lot of stretching. Water, oatmeal, Power Bar and a Banana
Event warmup:

More stretching.
Swim
  • 22m 50s
  • 440 yards
  • 05m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Tough swim. Got caught in the middle of my wave and was overtaken by many swimmers... and they basically swam over me. Had to move to the side to catch my breath and do a recovery backstroke for a minute. Then got started again and was about 2/3 done with the swim when I was overtaken by the next wave of swimmers. A couple went right over the top of me, so I had to once again "pull over" and float on my back to catch my breath. I was definitely more anxious for this open water swim than my last triathlon.
What would you do differently?:

More open water training. Also need to train in open water with others so I can practice getting splashed, kicked, etc. to get ready for race conditions.
Transition 1
  • 03m 31s
Comments:

Once again, need to practice putting on shoes when they're already clipped into the pedals. Ate some "goo cubes" (can't remember what they were called) for the first time and found they gave me much more energy for the bike and run. Need to find out what those were!
What would you do differently?:

Practice! Practice! Practice
Bike
  • 1h 05m 5s
  • 19.5 miles
  • 17.98 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a longer ride than I'm used to, but I really enjoyed it. The course was flat, so I was able to push pretty hard the entire way. Very little wind and the racers were spread out so getting a nice 18-19 MPH consisten pace was doable. There was one tricky intersection where you had to be on your toes for traffic, but got through it fine.
What would you do differently?:

A little more actual road training would have been nice, but overall I was very pleased with my bike portion.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

This was my best transition with biking shoes. Cut my time basically in half from my previous race. Not 100% what the reason for that was other than I felt like I had a lot more energy going into the run.
What would you do differently?:

More T2 practice.
Run
  • 24m 42s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Best run times of my triathlon "career". Had a lot of energy right out of T2. Not sure why, but I felt great and was able to keep a very nice pace the entire run. Stopped at the mid-way water station for just a second or two, but finished very strong... was able to sprint to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing... this was a great leg for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around... plenty of water... ate a ton of soft pretzels.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was very pleased with my performance at this triathlon. Want to continue to improve my times and would really like to improve my confidence in the water.

Event comments:

Love this race. It may not have all the bells and whistles of some larger races, but the course is great and the scenery beautifu. I recommend the Lums Pond Tri to everyone!
