Hey all!

Well as fate would have it I wasn't able to run yesterday since I'm ill.  Still fighting this thing whatever it is. Has to be viral as I got some cold sores Sat which is the only time I get those things.

I decided to run a 10k in mid March and start my tri training asap.  I'm looking at BT beginner HIM plan but will most likely develop my own or search for an Oly plan with a run focus for the next 5 weeks and then go gonzo with the tri training after that.

So how's everyone doing?  I'll be stopping by to see what's up.

PS, anyone else sick of winter!

Sorry to hear that, Don, that's a real bummer...those can creep up on you so quick, and before you know it you're knocked out for a few weeks and don't really feel 100% for more than a month.  Hope you're feeling better!

I'm doing good, finished my first 'race' of any kind yesterday: an 8 mile indoor TT on the bike.  It was...interesting.  I had an issue with my back tire--it somehow got wet so when I got to the big climb (and I was doing pretty good at this point, middle of the pack I'd say) my wheel kept slipping on the trainer...effected my cadence, obviously, but it was also near impossible to get up the damn hill because the tire just didn't want to grab the trainer.  I finished in 24:34, 114th place, but my wattage output was 93rd.

Swimming has been great, I'm in the 1:50-1:55 per 100m range consistently.  Running is...well, I'm doing it, not well but I'm doing it .

Oh, and winter...let's just say that it's supposed to be 50 degrees on Wednesday and I feel like throwing a party.  One of the worst winters i can remember.

I know the feeling.  I got a nasty sinus infection on Wednesday and have been down ever since.  Feeling better today and will be back to training tomorrow.

Hey everyone!

Well I'm back at it, shifting gears now and will be doing a 10k on March 14th.

I was thinking about how to use all this run base so I'll now go after a 10k PR while doing cross-training as base before starting a 18 week HIM plan on 3/16.  I used part of the 8 week Run focused maintenance plan up to the 10k, then will shift into the HIM plan.  Utilizing two 2 week build cycles early in the HIM plan then will do two 3 week builds after that once the fitness really starts to build.  I've had success with this in the past.

So here's what it looks like, pretty isn't it! Laughing

Looks great, definitely a well-designed program in my completely amateur opinion .  Have you had any experience with 4 week cycles (3 build weeks, 1 recovery; repeat)?  That's what I'm starting up next week (this is the last week of my 'base' program, then 1 recovery week and on to the builds).

I like how your program cycles the focus from one aspect of training to the next...so you'll do 3 hours of swimming and 2 hours of biking week 1, then 1 hour of swimming and 4 hours of biking week 2.  That's one thing the TB didn't really seem to hit on, which seemed strange to me.

Anyway, good luck, that's alot of hours to put in the next 5+ months!

I find 3 week builds rather exhausting! Foot in mouth  I can train with better focus and with my work schedule I find it easier to use 2 week builds then 1 week recovery.  Here's a HIM 20 week plan that uses 3 week cycles the most of the way with a two week cycle in the middle as explained here

After 5 years or so of using a number of training plans and learning what has worked best for me, I feel comfortable being able to bring in aspects of several plans and build a plan of my own.

It definitlely breaks up the monotony. The last 12 weeks are from the BT beginner HIM plan and I've done training like this before and like how I respond the big jump in volume but then back off, sudo recovery built in while maintaining the overall volume.

Hey, did you all see the new BT article and video regarding sport specific stretching yet?  Good stuff.

So are you guys stretchers?

I have a good routine that I go through.  Most of the time I integrate stretching with a core WO.  I'll do a full body stretch at night a lot too during evening sitcoms and drama's (gotta love CBS right now).  And always after a hard / long run.

I'd say I'm about 3/4 committed to stretching.  Some days I'll do a full 20-30 minutes after a workout, sometimes it's just a quick little 5 minute thing, but I always get stretching in.  The one exception is swimming...I generally loosen up the arms before swimming but never do anything after.  Definitely need to start, though.

Hey all.....hope life and training are good.  Gonna snow here this weekend.  NICE!  Another couple weeks of slush and ice, treadmills and trainers.  You southern folk are lucky.

I registered for 2 olympics this week, and a couple bike things and a couple run things, so I have my work cut out for me.....

Hey Gang,

Was going on all? I had a long weekend, working in the garage and painting.  We went through 10 years of junk and tossed a lot of $hit.  I finally got the itch and ran today and it felt great.  I'm thinking about going to only running and biking for training as swimming is really bothering my old back and neck ski injuries.  Always happens and right now I'd rather just focus on running and biking.

Nothing like leaving work at 11pm after a 13.5 hour day!  Yup work is rough right now for the next 2 weeks or so, myt favorite, typing test standard documents, ugh.  Did I tell you that I'm only at 30-35 wpm!

Well, I signed up for my first tri of the season.  A small sprint with a looong swim (for a bad swimmer).

pole_dancer - 2009-03-18 8:13 AM Well, I signed up for my first tri of the season.  A small sprint with a looong swim (for a bad swimmer).

Signing up for the first one makes it more real somehow, huh?  I've now signed up for 2 of my 5, and I'm actually just 6 weeks out from my first one.  Unfortunately I recently found out that I have a wedding to attend the weekend of my Greenfield tri (which is where my parents are from) so I'm going to have to drop that one and I'll be doing one in Sharon a few weeks later as a substitute.

I haven't had much time to check in, hope everyone's training is going well.  I had the week layoff for vacation and it's been surprisingly easy getting back into it...a little more soreness than I'm used to but otherwise I haven't felt much of a difference in stamina or anything.
