I had no idea there was a thread for the race, this is great.  I registered last july because i thought it'd be fun to do as my first HIM, and my cousin only lives about 35 minutes away from the race site.  i herniated a disc in my back in september, and am just now getting back on the bike...but running is a few weeks away at least.  hopefully i'll be good to go come race day!

That's part of the reason I registered...my best friend is about 45 minutes away.  I herniated 2 disks in my back years ago and it flares up every once in awhile.  Is doing so again now, but I've been keeping on top of it with weekly chiropractor visits.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and your back!

In case anyone is interested, especially those with kids, dining reservations are now available for the weekend of May 15th at WDW.  I just made my Sunday night dinner and Monday morning character breakfast reservations.  The  character breakfasts fill up fast.  I would call soon.  1-407-WDW-DINE.

also, just checked, were at 2460 total, today, 3-9-09... only 40 from a sell out. Would think it might sellout in the next week at 2500.

Thanks Dave.  I'm done running for awhile as I tore my medial gastrocnemius (inner calf muscle).  I'm in PT, walking on crutches as much as possible so as not to hurt my back with the screwy gate I walk with on it.  I'm not sure this is enough time to get back in running shape...but I will be there and will walk it if I have to.

For all the non-Floridians out there, it is starting to get HOT down here.

I'm in Tallahassee and it's already in the 80s.

I lived in Orlando for 11 years. In May you can count on temps from 85 to the low 90's. The humidity is the wildcard with some days better then others. Last year it rained on the bike and cooled things off as the wind died(very nice). But then the sun came out on the run and made the African grassland run like a sauna!!
Hydration and fueling will be key. Use the bike to re-fuel and set yourself up for the run.
I drank an Ensure in T2 and that really seemed to kick start my run.

Less than 2 months... How is everyone doing?  I have yet to get a long ride in with this crappy weather in the NE, but Sat looks like the 50+ mile day.

Is anyone interested in getting together on Sat night?  We should reserve a place soon.

Running 9-11 miles 1-2 per week and doing 1/2 marathon next week. I hope to be ok??? Anybody else out there looking to just finish before cutoff??? Staying at the sheraton near sea world.

Things are coming along good for me. Have done 4 rides in the mid 50mi range. Got in my first 12 mile run last week and have been swimming 1-1.25 mi in the pool for about 3 weeks now.
Just looking to mix in some speed work over the next 6 weeks before tapering the last 2 weeks before the race. Have a big 75mi ride scheduled on May 2nd, then taper begins.
Just wanting to work the run mileage up and get in two 14 mi runs before may. Then theres the big brick day somewhere around mid april, a 60 mi ride followed by a 10K run..that day sucks.

I'm considering this race a learning experience/training day and just hoping to finish before the cutoff also...and stay out of the medical tent.  Dialing my nutrition in is always a challenge as I am on a salt and protein restricted diet.  I only have one functioning kidney and it usually gets overwhelmed the first time I race a new distance (and this will be my first HIM).  My 2nd HIM is in August...and that one will be to finish faster than this one

I'm going to be staying with my old best friend from HS while in Florida and won't be getting to the race area (staying in Kissimmee) until Saturday afternoon...so Saturday early evening works well for me!  I look forward to meeting everyone!

Does anyone have the current lake water temps?

I know it's unlikely, but wet-suit would be nice.

Wetsuit would be nice as I swam 1.25mi today in the pool in mine, 35:42. But dont hold your breath. The water in May last year was well into the 80's.
If I remember right, the last 3 years there were no wetsuit.

I've got family 31 miles from Bay lake and can stay there for free before the race. Obviously, I'd rather not drop the coin on getting a place closer, if it can be avoided. What time should I be there on race day?

Also, when we check our bikes in the day prior, can you leave helmet and pump with bike, or no?

Can't leave Helmet or pump, just bike. And let some air out of your tires first so they dont pop in the heat, sitting in the sun all day.
Im at the Comfort Suits MainGate West on 192, 10 mins from Disney parking lot. Great place.
Got the nights of May 15,16,17.

Is this thing EVER going to sellout? Were at 2600 already.
For those of you who havent done it before, at these numbers you get about 12-14inch of space on the rack/ground in transision, its a parking lot.

Umm- Do you know when the cutoff times are? I'm kind of worried myself.

I hadn't thought of it from that perspective- Holy cow! I thought the race was sold out at 2000- and that it sold out relatively fast. I guess not because the race is about a month away.

I just wore my tri suit, top and shorts. I like the all in one, but feel the two are more comfortable. Its NOT wetsuit legal. Its May in Orlando and the water is about 83 degrees. I did see some swim skins last year as I remember.

FM[/QUOTE

I need all the help I can get- I just splurged and bought a blue seventy swim skin. Hopefully it does what it claims to do!

Check on Packet pick up and bike check in times/days. For some reason I thought you had to pick your packet up on Friday which kind of sucks since you can't check your bike in until Saturday between 10a-6p. We're flying in from New York- Husband and kids. They were looking forward to doing other things beyond mom's race stuff.

I'm soooo Jealous!!! It's freaking cold in New York- I'm starting to get a little worried that I'm gonna finish my race in the medical tent if the days don't start warming up soon.

Good point- It would really suck getting to transition to find your tires popped!
