SuperSprint

Sunny
Total Time = 46m 11s
Overall Rank = 293/734
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 105/182
Pre-race routine:

Two slices of toast with peanut butter, banana, coffee. Drive to event (40 mins). Had been drinking lots of water the previous 24h knowing it was going to be a hot day.
Event warmup:

Warmed up in water
Swim
  • 05m 38s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swimming is my weakest leg. My goal was to be under 7mins. To get 5.38 was great (no doubt articficially lowered by shallow water). Still, it wasn't nearly the struggle it was previously. Still getting used to swimming in packs where there are bodies everywhere.
What would you do differently?:

Focus when it gets tough. Try to keep an efficient stroke.
Transition 1
  • 03m 11s
Comments:

First time in wetsuit. watched competitors in later race and got some good tips on how to get out of wetsuit faster.
What would you do differently?:

Use feet to get out of suit legs.
Bike
  • 20m 13s
  • 10 kms
  • 29.68 km/hr
Comments:

From unracking to racking bike my speedo recorded course was 10.95km. Even taking into account run to mountng area etc the course was longer than the advertised 10km. Doesn't really matter that much, everyong has to do it. Speedo recorded average speed of just over 31km/h, which i was very happy about.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to put in more training miles.
Transition 2
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Transition time, as with T1 was longer than the average.
Run
  • 15m 33s
  • 3 kms
  • 05m 11s  min/km
Comments:

Wow! 15.33. My goal was 5.30 km pace and I would have been very happy with that. To do 5.11 km pace. This was the breakthrough leg for me - the fruit of regular training. Did I say I was happy with this time :-)
Post race
Warm down:

10 min free massage. Stretch. Eat. Watch Gatorade sprint race.

Event comments:

This was my third mini-tri (300/10/3). I was hoping to go under 50mins, so to go 46.11 was a thrill. Just need to keep training, including getting out of wetsuit practice.

Woo hoo! Totally addicted. Bring on St Kilda in 3 weeks time.

WOW! Congratulations! Those are great times - my brother was actually competing today for the 1st time and had a ball - another one hooked on the sport! A great day also - perfect conditions - just a little warm.
Good for you!
Bring on St Kilda - the last race for the season - how sad is that going to be?!
