Pre-race routine:

First race that I didn't stay at the event. It was an early morning rise and shine but that's what almost everyone else seems to do. Go there in plenty of time and got set up.
Event warmup:

Took a short swim and felt pretty good before the race chatting with my friend Mark and a couple of racers I took a swim class with. Was ready to go when it was time.
Swim
  • 18m 23s
  • 600 meters
  • 03m 04s / 100 meters
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Bike
  • 50m 4s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 15.34 mile/hr
Comments:

I thought the bike ride was much easier than the previous races I did but this did have one massive hill!
Transition 2
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

I saved some time by leaving off my sock for the ride and run. That will come back to haunt me later.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely, I will always wear socks!
Run
  • 46m 5s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 14m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

I definitely need to practice some hills before I try this again. That and the decision to leave off my socks really ate into my time. I did experience some bleeding in my heal and saw the painful reminder of that for month on the shoe. I did have to walk way more than I thought I would need to. At least the last mile was mostly run at a decent pace for me.
What would you do differently?:

Wear socks and practice on some hills.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor running technique on hills and no socks.

Event comments:

This was my first race to break 2 hours despite my poor run. It helped that the bike leg was slightly shorter than my other races.

Thought I swam faster than this indicates so the timing may have actually stopped farther up the hill at the entrance into transition. It was an easy swim and I felt good throughout.
