As far as I now in a very very few words:
long slow/medium pace endurace training produces long skinny muscles. So don't be afraid, as long as you ar not running uphill with a 40 pound backpack :- )
But, watch your food also. The reason why most men get skinny very fast is they don't eat good. Men do need more calories a day than women, they burn calories faster. If they do not eat good, they will burn fat but also muscle tissue quickly --> skinny legs.
So if you want to get slim and trim. Eat enough protein to keep your muscles, but limit your calories (not too much! ) to burn the fat.
